    used handbreak. original file is 10gb. 1st try coded 2gb file. 2nd try produced 30gb file
    so, i surely need routin to figure out correct settings

    I would suggest you join the Videohelp.com forum.

    ask how to convert “10-bit AVC is to to 8-bit AVC or 10-bit HEVC maintaining as much as possible original quality”. Recommendations for programs and step by step settings required.

    commercial software like DVDFab makes it easy to transcode properly to HEVC (with a large number of presets) and you can easily adjust settings if you want to fine tune the output.
    If you have a decent video card, it can also take advantage of CUDA hardware settings to speed up the encoding process so much faster than software and the CPU.
