Zidoo Z9X 8K worthy replacement for NVIDIA Shield Pro 2019?

Hi, all...

I am looking to 'possibly' replace my ageing NVIDIA Shield Pro 2019 with the new Zidoo Z9X 8K.

Now I get that the Zidoo is not a streaming device nor meant for gaming and I have zero intentions of using it for that really*...

All I use my Shield for is the following:-

1. Plex Media Playback from my Local/NAS
2. IPTV via iMPlayer App
3. YouTube via Smartube App (No HDR/AV1 Support on Shield for YT!)

So all I want is a worthy replacement that is able to do the above 3 things with the added benefit of HDR/AV1 Support for YouTube.

I understand that Zidoo has it's own Media Wall App for Video, but I have zero interest in it and I only want Plex and or JellyFin playback support.

So will the Zidoo Z9X 8K support the following:-

1. Plex playback device from Local/NAS
2. Sideload Android Apps for IPTV
3. Support YouTube with the added benefit of HDR/AV1 Support

No.

I did not ask about nor expect Netflix, Disney, Amazon etc streaming support.

Nor did I ask if it would game/emulate.

 

@CrimsonUK As with others on the fence, you should wait until these boxes are actually in the hands of end users. Then you can get definitive answers.

 

I was hoping maybe staff/beta testers perhaps had pre-release knowledge, so I could have my 3 concerns answered, and I could go ahead a pre-order.

But I suppose I will have to wait and see what is said afters the release makes it to those who pre-ordered.

I just have concerns after reading about how early adopters have been treat by Zidoo on previous hardware/firmware releases.

Decided to go with the Ugoos.

It's the same spec Processor/GPU and has more RAM at 8GB and is £115 / $150 cheaper than the Zidoo.

Also supports CoreElec will Full Dolby Vision FEL P7.

Homatics 4K Plus with ATV12 is successor of Shield.
It has AV01, GBE Network, Dolby Vision, Supports all sound formats and as its s905x4-k it has all certificates (netflix, drm, widewine) to play hdr on streaming services.

And Chromecast Built-In!! It's a device one for all.

But for Now I use separate z9x pro for files and chromecast 4k for streaming.

Interesting, they changed the housing. Might have to do with the cooling of the Am8 model. That has , or might have cooling/heating issues?

 

Doesn’t matter, only the AM6+ / AM6B+ is interesting because of its unique chipset and DV FEL capability. Nobody needs the AM8 or SK1.

 

I was on about the Ugoos AM6B+ and that's what I purchased (£119) / ($153) and it works sweet including DV FEL.

I did confuse it at first with the new SK1 specs due to a mix up on a reddit post I was following regarding the CoreElec.

 

Where did you get it in the end? Anywhere in the UK with stock? I hate waiting around!

I am on the fence still between this and the Zidoo 8K - the new plex app built in seems promising as it would use the zidoo player natively - but I think as has been said the Ugoos AM6B+ is the only one that supports P7 FEL.

I keep wondering does it even matter as I am sick of chasing the perfect box...

For me, plex is important, and i want it to play Remuxes - I have the Homatics 4K Plus and that was almost there...but need to use Kodi and still not proper P7 FEL, this is what puts me off the Ugoos as well, as I really don't wan to use Kodi! I have the Fire TV Box 3rd gen and that plays the files with P7, but I am gusssing it fakes it as you have to enable the force P7 compatability option in plex. It does however work very well and it is very slick.

It's a wonderful box - no problems so far - everything I played on it played without any problems
Supports FEL without problems
