VLC player on Z10Pro

I can not get the Brightness & Contrast controls to show up within the VLC player.
Supposedly the shortcut for this is ctrl+E, but all that shows for me is the audio EQ

Does any one have VLC installed and know how to get these working?

I think there may be some video settings on the Z10 Pro (for its video card/chip) that need to be changed before this will work, but not sure what ones.

I think maybe the VLC install thinks the android is a phone

 

There are 2 settings in kodi player settings that refer to hardware acceleration. If I turn these both off, I can get the contrast and brightness controls to turn on for the kodi player, but video plays back a bit choppy over-all.
I was thinking they might be related
