I'm considering getting a 4 bay USB 3.0 JBOD enclosure to connect to my Zidoo box. Has anyone tried doing this? If so, will Android recognize all the drives? Just thought I'd check with the community before I attempt it.
My guess is that it will work as long as the total amount of HDD does not exceed 16 TB to cope with the maximum addressing space allowed by the OS), even slightly less than that as some users have reported problems with 16 TB drives.
Let me correct my previous answer, as I read too quickly: - what I wrote applies to an internal eSATA disk - for external disks connected via USB, the limits are defined by the specs of the JBOD eSATA/USB controller. So in your case, the limits will be whatever the JBOD manufacturer states in the specs. Sorry for my misleading initial answer.
Thanks. I took the plunge and ordered a Terramaster 4 bay JBOD enclosure. I took the two HDDs out of the Zidoo internal slots and placed them in the enclosure. They both work fine now with the Zidoo even the one of wouldn't recognize in the internal slot. They are 16tb in capacity. Now, this just goes to prove one of my internal slots is bad. The question is, do I bother trying to file a warranty claim with Zidoo? I don't know, I think I'm better off just leaving them out of the player considering how much heat they generate. And, there's always the chance I'll get a lemon as a replacement. Thanks for your input.
Try formatting the unrecognized HDD inside the Zidoo. Then, you can populate it via Samba, USB 3.0, etc. That solved my issue with my Z20 Pro, which didn't recognize a any single HDD formatted via enclosure, as they seem to add some weird partition that messes things up.
Thanks for your feedback, I thought of that too. I was able to get the HDD to come back online by formatting it again in Windows. Once I got it to show up in the Zidoo again, I formatted it with my UHD-5000. I started copying files to it and it went offline again. I got feed up and bought the USB JBOD enclosure and it hasn't gone offline since.
