Just wanted to mention this, since I believe Eversolo mention that only locally stored surround files can be output as surround via HDMI. When using the native app ‘Internet Radio’ and playing ‘Soma FM Groove Salat 320k AAC HLS Surround’ I’m getting Multi-ch PCM at my surround receiver even when the player says 2ch.
Are you sure its Multi-ch PCM? Most receivers have upmixing capabilities (eg from stereo to multi-channel) ..
Seems to be 4.0 or 4.1 (but I don’t have a sub). Center channel is not playing. I have the StreamS app on my Apple TV. The same Radio channel is in this app but here the center channel has sound. But of course this Apple TV app might be playing a different surround stream from Soma FM.
Do you happen to have the stream's link? I cannot see Groove Salad Surround in the available stations... maybe some are geo-fenced (I am in Europe)?
I’m not sure how to find the link. It shows up when I search ‘surround’ in the eversolo app on ipad / iphone. I’m in Denmark.
I found the stream playing around in the website, and got it playing in VLC as 5.1 in this very moment: 3F2R/LFE @48kHz 320kbps Tomorrow I'll test it on my RPi with moOde audio and see if it detects the same, and eventually downmixes it to stereo. P.S. The link is this: https://hls.somafm.com/hls/gs-surround/program.m3u8 Maybe someone can also try to enter it directly in the radio app.
I guess, it will be possible with the coming firmware to enter links directly into the ‘internet radio’ app but I’m not part of the beta testing group.
No, I do not own an A6 yet... actually I stumbled on this forum because I was following the DAC-Z8 one (yes, I do own a Z8, which I drive with a Raspberry Pi into active studio monitors) I am just curious about internet radios streaming in multichannel / lossless, so I asked ;-)
Does it show 6ch if you just play the stream that I mentioned? The one that can be found via a search.
Maybe the one that I see via a search is different from the one that is available via the added link? Anyway, I guess Soma FM are ‘just’ doing the upmixing before broadcasting it. I don’t think the music is originally in surround. But it’s nice to know that the technology is there.
There are "special streams", anyway following the links the only one was yours (not visible in the main page, or the listing; you need to follow some links in the page to land on it). It is marked as 5.1. Maybe they are just testing them ATM; important thing is that they DO stream MCH.
I can confirm Soma FM in MCH. However, without center, center is displayed (Yamaha 2080) but I don't hear anything there.
So, I tried few minutes ago to add the station to moOde on my Pi4, and it indeed decodes with 6 channels. Then, of course, being my DAC stereo, MPD downmixes it to stereo. This is the audio info moOde displays for the station:
