External HT4 database

There is a memory constraint as to the size of the HT4 database. For most users they probably will not hit it but as the TV scraping gets "better" and the way tv series are held in the database these seem to create a large number of entries. Additionally if the poster database is held locally then the players memory will be used up even more rapidly.

As the "memory" fills up the loading of the database slows dramatically and eventually the app crashes to a black screen and refuses to load. You have to go into "Apps" clear the data in the HT4 app (menu) and reload a "smaller" database backup.

So this got me thinking as the "backup is a copy of the database" and as the poster folder is capable of being read from a external device then could the HT4 app be modified so that it also reads the database from an external device/location rather than reload the "local" database.

The main advantage of this is that multiple players on the local network can all access the one database. This also raises issues about writing and updating the database which could be a master,admin/slave type of system or all "admin"

A source/device table exists within the database as McBlunas extensive analysis of the database structure shows, there is a Device ID and Source ID table.

Having this sources/Device database table could also allow the possibility of "slave" players on the local network which could have have custom databases ie only accessing the data from the master database for those defined sources So if set up carefully you could have a Family/Kids player or a 4K/3d, TV only player and so on.

    Or is this a pipedream?
