Must CD ripping to an installed SSD drive use the USB OTG input? Can any other input be used?

What "other input" do you have in mind? If you are thinking about S/PDIF (whether coaxial or TOSLink) then the answer is no, because those are CD-player outputs only, controlled by the CD player only.

USB input only. I would not be surprised if the lower USB port may also work, but this is normally reserved for USB Audio Out. However the internally fitted SSD if fitted and the two USB3 ports are all part of an overall USB system bus, and the system can tell what is required by the devices connected, so it could adapt to using the "wrong" port. Another forum post has reported use of the top OTG port for USB Audio Out for example.

You do not need a hi-spec CD drive to rip the discs, any proved-to-be-compatible laptop external CD/DVD/whatever will do the job perfectly.
