Like many, I’ve been running a Shield Pro for local NAS media playback, using Plex. The Shield hasn’t been updated in years but is still arguably one of the best (if not the best) media player on the market. However, there’s no way to block the incessant advertising on the Home Screen, so I tried switching to a Zidoo Z9X a couple of years ago. I liked the playback, but was really disappointed that I couldn’t install Plex on it. I have an 80TB NAS that I have meticulously cataloged in Plex, and after trying to use Zidoo’s proprietary library management, I realized it would simply be too much work to maintain my library on two different platforms. I returned the Z9X and went back to the Shield Pro. I just saw that a Z9X Pro is available. One of its features is running Android 11 and that “most” apps can be installed. Does that mean the Z9X Pro can run Plex natively now? If so, I’d switch back to Zidoo in a heartbeat.
