    Local drives to Zidoo are the best and trouble free for high bit rate movie playing nad you get decent network speed for transferring files to and from Zidoo. Just don't try to make 2 Zidoo's with local drives on the network :D

    I have no problem whatsoever with playing high bitrate media from my unRAID setup in the closet, using gigabit network it plays flawlessly.

    I know and lots of people like you and I has no issue. However there as many people that do. This is one of the threads with over 20 pages of discussion how streaming from NAS is not working for them here.
    But NOBODY has issues playing from local drives :D

    Just to be clear I have absolutely no issues playing via a NAS, I have three. The issue here is to do with attaching a USB drive to one of them NOT directly to the Zidoo

    Yes but I'd need a considerably longer cable - room to room with solid ground floors.

    What you have to do when i this error comes up is;
    1). Eject drive in the NAS menu
    2) Power down Yottamaster box
    3) Connect Yottamaster box to a PC
    4) Turn on box and from the windows explorer menu run "properties, Tools, error checking, check, scan and repair

    The Windows will clear the "dirty flag".
    5) safe eject and power down
    6) reconnect to NAS

    This procedure is required as the expansion disc is formatted as NTFS ie not the native file system for the NAS. If you attached the expansion box with empty discs you can select format from the NAS in the file menu and format as BTRFS the "native file system" and then the NAS should correct itself.
    However I have never tested this as you need specialist recovery software that can recover BTRFS file systems if something serious does happen. There are number of software packages and I have RecoverMe which does the trick for most files systems.

    And yes attaching as RAID5 does work I have a number of external boxes all operating in this mode hanging off 104's and 214 and ReadyNAS NV+ V2 boxes
