I'm trying to connect the HDD I use in my Zidoo directly to my PC to transfer files. I tried a docking station and hot swap bay and get this error on my PC, "The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure all required file drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted." AFAIK there is nothing wrong with my drive. The only option on windows is to re-format drive (and lose all data). Does anyone know how to fix this? PS: I know there are other ways to transfer files but connecting the HDD to my PC is better for me.
Did you originally format this drive on your Zidoo? If so did you select NTFS or EXT4 ? If it isn’t NTFS Windows won’t recognise it.
I think I used Zidoo to format and believe it was NTFS.... any way to check what the format is using Zidoo? I was just playing in the file manager and settings but didn't see anything useful.
Mount the drive in your pc and then right-click the drive in My Computer and select Properties. The file system will be listed on the General tab. If it is NTFS then it should indicate. I don’t think there is anyway to do this on a Zidoo. Probably a network connection is your best bet. The other solution woukd be to copy all the files off to another drive then reformat the original drive on your PC then putting the drive back in the Zidoo and copying the files back ☹️
Properties is blank (no format shown and no space on drive) but disk management shows RAW file format. Even stranger - I can scan the hdd with Microsoft defender and it shows the files being scanned. I might need to reformat as you said. Appreciate your suggestions, thanks.
Honestly, I have no idea. I tried to reformat the drive and everything fell to shit. I thought I was going to lose the drive for a couple hours (not just the data but the actual drive). After messing around for a couple hours I was able to reformat the drive to NTFS, and confirmed it worked with both Zidoo and PC. I have no idea what went wrong or what caused it but I'm transferring all my files from PC to the HDD now... major PITA to get it set up but now I can use my hot swap bay on PC and the speeds are much better than going across the network or using a flash drive.
