DMP-A8: Feature Requests

That’s why I would love a bigger and preferably OLED screen in a future G2

 

A tablet or phone in your hand solves that problem.

No A8 screen will ever be big enough to show album art AND all info at the same time and having it be visible from far away with 50-80 year old eyes.

 

True .. the real driver for my comment however is that at night, even with brightness reduced to the max, the outline of the LCD screen is still visible.

An Oled screen solves that almost entirely by only showing the active pixels of the VU meters etc … With Oled, black is simply black ..

Aesthetically much sexier

 

Another request would be the possibility to reorder the inputs and outputs. I am mostly using the internal streamer, the USB input and the XLR input… The XLR input however sits all the way at the end of the input selection bar … It would be nice to be able to group the inputs so that your most frequently used ones sit close(r) together.

(And yes I know about the function to automatically change input source .. While interesting it is not in all scenarios practical .. For A/B testing for instance I often need multiple sources to play in sync)

first of all i very appreciate my request to snooze completely ring light on shutdown. Great and fast as usual.
I've a question because my particular setup: i've a DMP-A8 connected using XLR to a final amp (Class-D NCX500 dual mono) that's turned on by trigger.
Every time I start DMP i can ear 2 bops: (1) on triggering AMP startup and (2) after boot up once InternalPlayer is commuted (it's clearly it because i can ear a mechanical click).

My Question is how to mitigate this and a viable solution could be on DMP software:
the basic idea is to introduce flag that can delayed triggering after complete boot and commutation.

What do you think about? Could this little change possible or i need to find other solutions (in case can help me)?

Hallo, ich habe an den A8 einen AB Verstärker als Vollverstärker angeschlossen. Ich höre keine Bops. Auch nicht, wenn ich vergesse, die Lautstärke am Vollverstärker auf Null zu stellen. Darf ich fragen, welchen Hypex Ncx Amp du hast. Ich überlege mir nämlich einen Apollon Amp mit Hypex Modulen zu kaufen.

I have A8 and Hypex like yours but without trigger, no bump.
If you remove the trigger and turn it on by hand does it make a bump or not?

 

No bump is expected (excluded natural NCX classD initial bump) powering on by hand... but trigger use is much more pleasant because you can fire up everything with a single button on remote... do you agree?
As already described before this is the reason why i suggest to introduce this new selectable behavior... in this way only one bump will result to be produced instead of two.

Is it possieble to have the option to disable the volume on the A8 / A6? So that the volume adjustment can only be done via the app or remote.
My kid likes tur touch and turn everything in the house. Volume knob is very tempting.

 

Volume control in variable decibel steps. As it is now it is linear, you can choose the step from 0.5 to 3 dB across the entire scale.
It would be more logical if it were logarithmic. For example those closer to 0dB in 0.5dB steps, lower at 1dB, and lower still at 1.5dB or more.
It would be ideal if the shift points were also adjustable.

Only feature I really want right now is to be able to play a TIDAL album that is in my favourite list reliably and with less button clicks. One way to do this would be to allow setting a different screen when the app is opened direct on the DMP-A8. For example, when I open TIDAL to have it automatically navigate to the MY COLLECTION, all favourited ALBUMs screen.

Me too, but I'm afraid it's impossible

 

There is already a CD-ripping built in feature. For everything else, use proper software. You cannot expect a device doing all the things that come to your mind, uh...?
I do agree it would be wonderful, but... come on, let's not pretend the moon, right?!!

 

Please can you add Squeeze Connect to the mobile and tablet app so it can be restarted from these and not just the unit as this isn’t very handy, also to add as a shortcut like other apps would be useful.

 

I would like a search function that actually works. I can’t search for any name, album, artist or whatever, containing accents. So no Mylène Farmer, no Röyksopp…

When will this be fixed, I’ve seen complaints from years ago about this?
