Is there a way to stop HT4 from auto scanning?

I thought I seen a setting for this but I cant find it. I want to be able to manually scan for new content.

I have a 16TB HDD with about 7000 movies on it, connected to the Z10pro and the HDD is constantly running, like it is defraging or something. I have no idea what is causing this to happen. It wont happen on smaller HDDs. So I am trying to figure out what the problem is, stopping the auto scan may be the solution.

There are only 2 ways I have found to stop the HDD from getting in this 'defrag' type of state.
1. Play a movie
2. put a movie on pause

do you happen to know what the difference is between "automatic updating sources' and 'automatic scan storage' is?
They sound almost like the same thing
