For me, it has happened with both the internal hard drive and with my NAS. Just the folder in question has disappeared; nothing else. First time, with the folder on the NAS, it was after several attempts to find a suitable set of subtitles, and the second time, the other day, it was the first attempt at downloading a subtitle file for episode 8 of 10 that just deleted the entire folder.

 

Hi Mark,yes, exactly. The affected drive is a physical internal hard drive inside my main PC running Windows 11, shared over the network via SAMBA. My NAS, which is a separate unit, was completely unaffected. The drive was dedicated entirely to tv shows, nothing else.
The Windows SMB share for this specific hard drive was set to full control. After the restart, that specific internal hard drive on the Windows PC appeared completely empty. It seems the crash while executing a write command over SMB completely corrupted or wiped the MFT of that drive, making Windows read it as a new, empty drive. No hidden folders, just completely blank.that is, it only happens with the disc I had the series on. Now I downloaded the same series onto the same disc..I downloaded subtitles, deleted..downloaded..deleted, downloaded...I did it at least 20 times and it doesn't happen again.

 

Wow that's mad. So it doesn't sound like replication is an option.

Did you happen to look at the drive in Disk Management? If so were there any partitions defined?

@Zidoo Support-Kim , @bob , @Eki Shaw - this really needs looking at - too many people have reported this happening now.

 

So, have I missed anything interesting? .......Asking for a friend.

(wishful thinking out loud) I sure hope there's a Home Theater apk newer than v5.0.76 released sooner rather than later that fixes the inability to sort Unmatched titles, and separates the sorting done in one place from following along to Favorites at least. Mentioning here since the latest firmware is what contains the latest apk that I can find.

 

Honestly, I don't know whether to be happy or terrified when a new firmware comes out. Releases are extremely rare, and if something goes wrong after installing it, you're screwed for months (if not forever).

 

Yep, I'd prefer just an updated APK at this point, since I can at least undo that update and restore data.

I think there's a bug in how HT handles low resolution files : even if all AI and picture enhancements are turned off, it applies the level of default enhancement anyway. I have some old DVD with poor resolution but was surprised it looked all oily and muddy, so I double checked, everything was turned off, but the default levels (you set a level and you chose whether it's engaged or not in the Zidoo picture settings) were set to high. When I set them to low, the picture looked much closer to the original, while all the settings were still turned off. So I feel that, when it comes to low resolution pictures, the AI enhancements are buggy and always on. I hope this can be fixed, AI enhancement isn't always a good option. Thank you !

Hi Mark,sorry for the late reply...
I checked Disk Management right after it happened.,the partition was perfectly intact , but it showed as 100% free space. The MFT was completely wiped, so while the raw data might still be there, the entire directory structure and file names were gone.It's insane that a simple .srt write over SMB from the Zidoo triggered this in Win11. Since I can't replicate it now, it was probably a rare collision between the Zidoo write request and a Windows background process.To be absolutely safe, I haven't disabled the subtitle feature I just changed the SMB share permissions in Windows to Read-Only for the Zidoo. Now it physically can't write to or corrupt my drives anyway.

 

Now that is odd - obviously just deleting content on a disc is a simple mechanism and a network media player has the ability to do that if you let it - so I can see a buggy process in a player could easily do that if the correct permissions were in place.

But to corrupt the MFT on a Windows PC is crazy - well - there's no mechanism to do that - the player accesses the share by SMB (or NFS) and there's nothing (that I'm aware of) in either protocol to mess with the Master File Table - it's too low level - it can read and write and delete according to permissions - it can't do anything else.

There's another variable here.
