Hi all - I had a question - I currently have a Zidoo UHD 2000 that I purchased in 2020. It basically works fine - it sometimes doesn't pick up subtitles when characters briefly talk in foreign languages in films. The power on is also a bit intermittent with the remote these days and sometimes requires me to manually push the power button on the box to turn it on. But otherwise it has been solid. For context, I only use it to watch movies that are stored on a network Synology NAS and output via the HDMI to a Lyngdorf MP60 which does all the heavy lifting. I have no need for HDD capability from the box itself, and I don't use it for audio or anything else. It is stored in a rack and I use Control 4 to operate my AV system. I'm moving house / renovating and was weighing up if it was worth updating this box (mainly as this subtitle issue can be a bit annoying in films sometimes). Since I don't need internal drives, and am interested in movie output only, I was looking at the Z9X 8K for around £239.99. Would this deliver any kind of noticeable improvement in performance or features vs the UHD 2000 that I currently have? And is this the right product to look at? Appreciate any thoughts from those that know these products well, thank you!
For what it's worth, I had a Z1000 Pro that I bought in 2020. It had been misbehaving in more serious ways for the last year and a half, but that's a different story. I upgraded to the Z3000 Pro a month and a half ago and am very happy. It's much snappier booting and loading my posterwall. We use English subtitles for everything. The Z9X should have the same performance as my Z3000 Pro, as far as those elements, although your 2000 was faster than my 1000, so maybe someone who had the 2000 can better speak to this. Edit: I would say that yes, the Z9X sounds like it would be the right fit for you. Edit 2: I do like the V12 remote that came with my Z3000 Pro. I don't know what the Z9X comes with, but if it's not the V12, you might be interested in obtaining that separately.
Z9X ships with v11. I ordered a v12 separately. I much prefer Bluetooth vs IR and the v11 has no motion triggered backlight like the v12 does.
I made similar step and don't regret it a day. Updates for the model come faster. Image quality is better to me. It plays YouTube in 4k with surround. It is very fast.
If you don't need internal storage then yes, the Z9X 8K is the way to go. As others have said there is a marginal jump in picture quality and speed with a big jump in UI design and flexibility, particularly in terms of HDR handling. A worthwhile upgrade. Your subtitle issue just sounds like a lack of a forced flag in the file - not the player's fault.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I've ordered the Z9X 8k for my rack. I have Control 4 on my rack, so that should be configurable without needing a remote upgrade. If anyone wants an old UHD2000, please let me know!
