Hi, Can anyone recommend a switch or some such gizmo that will allow me to split the Zidoo Z30 pro HDMI signal audio between the Zidoo and a Spdif out so that I can hear the sound from my Oticon TV adapter (which streams to my hearing aids and a Samsung soundbar. This was not a problem with the Z20 pro the sound was output through the Spdif at the same time as the HDMI out. Thanks
I bought my Dad one of those Oticon devices for christmas - he's blown away by it! Yeah it's a bit of a nuisance that - I've never asked, but I assume that the AML SoC just doesn't support simultaneous output like the Realtek one does. I can't recommend a particular HDMI audio extractor because I use HDFury devices, which obviously do that and a lot more, but I assume you don't want to spend that much just to get an spdif output.. But there are plenty around for a few bucks - google "HDMI audio extractor" - I'd probably look on Amazon at the reviews.
Another downweight of the AML SoC compared to Realtek. I'm getting more and more of the impression that the AML SoC was intended for primitive TV boxes, not media combines. And you're right, Zidoo took it into their devices only because there was no good alternative on the chip market
I don't think that's true for the S928X - certainly the 905 range are less powerful, but the 928 (and 922) AMLs have advantages and disadvantages over Realtek - I think on balance I prefer the AML SoCs because of their flexibility with HDR modes and speed although the difference is not that significant. But yes, there was no alternative. Realtek seem to have abandoned this market.
So I decided to buy a Vertex2 and now I just need to figure out how to connect my equipment, I have Z30Pro, Samsung Q800D Soundbar and an LG C5 TV, the soundbar has a HDMI in and eArc HDMI, what is the best way to connect everything.
Probably a few ways of doing it and soundbars tend to always be a source of headaches. In my setup I simply go: Zidoo > Vertex2 > AVR > Display So if the Soundbar has an HDMI in and this works, I'd do the same and go: Zidsoo > Vertex2 > Soundbar > Display
Thanks Mark, I set it up like you suggested and I can get sound to my hearing aids if the Audio is ACC, when the file is Dolby Digital Plus or Atmos then it does not stream, is there a way to set the Spdif output to 5.1, when I play a file other then ACC the Vetex2 shows it is bitstream and it won't pass the sound to my Oticon TV adapter.
As you use CEC and eARC have you looked in the Vertex 2's CEC/EARC tab - I don't know but wonder if the settings here could solve your issue?
The problem is the Oticon doesn't support E-AC3, only AC3 and PCM. Also S/PDIF only supports lower bitrates of E-AC3 and definitely not Atmos. So you'll need to set the HDMI audio output on the Zidoo to PCM Stereo in Audio settings.
Well, I took the Vertex2 out of my setup and now I have my Oticon TV adapter Spdif IN connected to my LG C5 TV, the sound settings on the TV set to TV speakers and Optical out, the Oticon TV adapter Spdif OUT is connected to my Samsung soundbar Optical IN. the Z30 pro HDMI is connected to the LG TV and the sound settings on the Z30 is set to HDMI Auto. Everything is now working great.
No worries. As you probably know most people have been where you have with one issue or another but is there anything more satisfying than sorting it out and receiving the viewing/hearing rewards? Well don't answer that as @Markswift2003 will be on your back hehe, but you get what I'm saying
