yes, when you are using connect the setting on the device you are using as a controller does not alter the output. Think about how that would even work - when using connect, your device is essentially a remote control. You can switch seamlessly between one device and another and the playback does not stop or change.

If you change the normalization setting on the internal app to ON and play some tracks using it, should then find that the output level matches exactly what you are getting over connect.

Ok — that makes sense now.

So it’s Spotify Connect that’s applying normalisation and this can’t be turned off, whereas playing Spotify directly on the A8 respects the setting and gives the correct output. That explains the behaviour I’ve been hearing perfectly — thanks for clarifying.

As a side note, it does feel like an unfortunate limitation for lossless playback, especially since Connect is the most convenient way to use Spotify on devices like this. Hopefully Spotify or Eversolo can address it in the future.

to clarify, it can be turned off , this is not a spotify connect limitation. It just cannot currently be turned off on the Eversolo device, as they have provided no way to do it.

on the positive side, people have null-tested spotify's volume normalization implementation and found it to be completely transparent, so there really should not be any impact to the sound quality beyond just needing to the volume up further.

Understood — thanks. So while Spotify Connect itself may support disabling normalisation, Eversolo currently doesn’t expose that control, meaning Connect playback on the A8 is effectively always normalised. That distinction makes sense now.

On my phone app Spotify is showing lossless but not on my A6 screen. Is that correct?
Or should lossless be showing on the screen also?

I’m not experiencing it. In the past I’ve found Qobuz to be slightly louder. I thought this was intentional on their part.
