Solid Red LED, power toggle fixes it. Every couple of days.

This just started happening. My Zidoo Z9X 8K will suddenly show a red led for some reason and drops off the network and has no input on that hdmi. In each case, a power toggle resolves the situation.

I should note that happens while idle. While the device is not being used at all and shouldnt be doing much background wise as I don't allow auto scans since I always manually run everything through TMM first.

I was hoping that maybe this is a simple, known thing. Rather than this is signaling the end of my device. I've only had it less than a year.

Yes, it's buggy firmware. It gets worse over time. For the first couple of weeks, you can bring it back with a press of the remote control power button, but eventually it will get into a boot loop, where it will not come back until you have used the power switch on the back to turn it off or unplug it from the wall.

It's another one of those things that Zidoo have been told about well over a year ago but have done nothing about. Just goes to show that the company is not interested in polishing the product or addressing issues that surface in the field.

As @peteru says there is a well known, well documented, very old bug whereby the box will enter HDMI standby after 24 hours of no use. A press of the power button resumes the HDMI display. There is a way to stop this behaviour but it requires not using the screensaver.

However I’ve never seen, nor have I seen reported, nor is known to the devs, a bug whereby the box shuts down completely requiring a hard reset.

@peteru are you saying that if you leave the box on, but without use, for more than 2 weeks, it behaves as the OP described above?

I never shutdown or sleep my Zidoo. It's permanently on. Sometimes I watch it every day for 5 or so days in a row and it never goes to the semi-standby mode. Sometimes I may not watch it for a couple of days, sometimes I may not watch it for nearly a week. Usually pressing the remote ON button will bring it out of the semi-standby state. However, I've noticed that after at least 2 weeks, but perhaps as long as a month of doing this, it will eventually get into a sleep loop and the only fix is to remove the power. It happened again about 10 days ago and that time I decided to record the behaviour.

Here are two videos of this happening. The landscape video shows the Zidoo and Yamaha RX-V683 AVR front panels. The video starts when I pressed the ON button on the remote and ends when the Zidoo goes back to it's sleep state. The portrait video is the same scenario, with two repetitions. The bottom of the TV screen is also visible. My configuration shows a grey screen when there is no valid signal coming into the TV. As you can see, when I press the ON button on the remote, the screen changes to black, but eventually the Zidoo goes back to sleep / standby and the screen returns to grey.

Is the fix to turn off the screen saver?

The screen saver state seems to have no bearing on this.

Ok - that doesn’t exactly follow my experience - I also leave a Z9X and a Z30 on 24/7 and after 24 hours of no use whatsoever it goes into HDMI standby (this is a legitimate mode provided by the SoC) but immediately on pressing power the HDMI output resumes.

I’ve never had the box fall back to full standby with the red led on and require a hard reboot.

It does but you need to also access Developer Options.

Ok, I don't think I tried just tapping the power button the remote. I just got up and power toggled via the physical switch. This only started happening this week for the first time. Next time it happens, I will just try the remote to recover it and see what happens. If that's all it is, I just need to wake it up, then that is fine, I can certainly live with that.

It happened again. I tried just tapping the power button on the remote. The screen changed to HELLO for about ten seconds, then went back to red LED. During this time there was no ping response and nothing output to the tv.

So exactly the same thing that I show in my videos above, right?

    Yes, exactly.

@Zidoo Support-Kim , it might be an idea to pass this onto Bob - it's an odd one that I've never seen. Be sure he looks at @peteru 's videos above.

In case anyone is interested in tracking: it seems to happen every other day now. Hopefully, a fix will emerge, or I'll likely have to banish this device to a drawer for now and go back to my Nvidia Shield and thus end my brief foray into more capable media players for now.
