For the benefit of all potentially interested subscribers of the Nugs.net music streaming service I reply to myself and Eversolo (@Zidoo Support-Kim) with the reason and relevant solution for the problem of not being able to successfully side-load the Android APK App file into my Eversolo DMP-A6.

The reason is related to the fact that the latest Nugs.net Android App versions implements the so called "Google Play Protection" feature, which basically requires the App to be directly installed from the Play Store and the availability of the Google Services in the device Android O.S. version in order to let the App run correctly (or just even start at all). In fact there is no independent official Nugs.net APK file officially released by the streaming platform and even if you are able to extract it from your Android phone or tablet it doesn't work (the App install but doesn't start). There might be some advanced method to unprotect said extract file or just download it already unprotected from some external source but all attempts I made were unsuccessful and I think it shouldn't represent the proper way to follow anyway for security reason. The solution is in fact get in contact with the Nugs support and ask for the latest version of the official App before the "Google Play Protection" feature implementation. They will share with you the appropriate APK file which I tested successfully for the side-load operation on my Eversolo DMP-A6.

    It's sad.
But I feel that this kind of "protection" by the OS to my apps of choice is a bit overwhelming... one day I would not be able to install my own apps (I am a developer, and like to write my own apps, for personal use). It's too much. I already have parents that tought me the right way, no need for an OS thinking what is, or not, good for me.

Could someone please post a link to the 'settings.apk' mentioned above; as I can not find it (using APKPure) as most of the ones i have downloaded (and uninstalled) have built in adds which is annoying

If you search the A6 bit of this forum for a thread like "External BT Keyboard possible ..." and look for the first post by DJPower, he gives the link for the settings shortcut app.

Sideloading the "RadioPlayer Ukraine" App on the Eversolo DMP-A6

I've been mainly listening to rock ballads lately and stumbled upon a fantastic radio station that offers its own player app. They have a great selection—I genuinely love every song they play! The occasional voice of a moderator, apparently speaking Ukrainian, doesn't bother me at all.

While I know the quality probably isn't Hi-Res (it seems to be closer to a higher-quality MP3 stream), the content itself is what matters most to me here. I'm also aware that this specific station could be played through other players, like TuneIn Radio, but I really wanted to use their dedicated app: "RadioPlayer Ukraine: FM-online."
    ️ The Installation Journey

    1. Finding the File: I went to apkpure.net and located the latest available version (2.4.5) of the app. It was available as an .XAPK file, so I downloaded that.

    2. Initial Failure: I tried to upload the file directly using the Eversolo's web browser interface (at IP:18888), but I got an error message indicating that the XAPK format is not supported.

    3. The Solution: This meant I needed an installer. I downloaded the APKPure App itself (the one advertised as being able to "install XAPK/APK files on Android!").

    4. Security Check & Install: After scanning the APKPure App with virustotal.com to be safe, I installed it onto the DMP-A6 using the standard sideloading procedure.

    5. Running the Installer: I navigated directly on the DMP-A6's screen, found the new APKPure App in the Apps menu, and launched it.

    6. Installing the Radio App: I closed the initial advertisement window and used the search function within the APKPure App to find "radioplayer ukraine." I then clicked the green bar to confirm the installation.

    7. System Permissions: During the process, the Android system prompted me to allow installation from an unknown source, which I granted permission for.

    8. App Permissions: When I first launched the "RadioPlayer Ukraine" app itself, it asked about background activity. I chose Deny for that permission.

    9. Finding My Station: Finally, within the radio app, I used the search term "ballads" to quickly find my favorite station (Radio ROKS Rokbaladi).

    10. Tuning Up: Once the song started playing, I noticed a grey HD button. I clicked it, which turned it on, presumably boosting the stream quality a bit further.
It's also a nice bonus that I can look up the schedule of played songs on their website!

    Sideloading, APK architecture, and platform

I was also wondering — when sideloading an app, which version should I choose if there are multiple options (for example, armeabi-v7a vs arm64-v8a)?

From what I understand, the DMP-A6 is based on an internal quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, which uses a 64-bit architecture and supports starting from Android version 11 the arm64-v8a ABI (Application Binary Interface).

On older Android versions (for example, Android 11 on the DMP-A6), which still include a 32-bit runtime, would be possible to install and use applications built for the armeabi-v7a (32-bit) platform. However, it is better to install 64-bit (arm64-v8a) applications, as they will run faster and remain compatible with newer Android versions, which may no longer include a 32-bit runtime.

Yup, you got it. Anyway, the system itself will tell you that the provided APK file is not for the current platform, shall you chose an invalid one.

As I always say: it takes a handfull of minutes to install and try yourself. It will not destroy your unit. You can always remove it, shall you don't like / need it.
I mean: it is not like investing a lot of money on new hardware... get it, install it, try it. Easy, uh?

Sure, that's what I did. I downloaded it from Aurora. But I paid for the licence (Amazon App Store) to unlock all the features. It was some time ago when I bought DMP-A6. But now I bought the Play unit.... and when neither Google Play Store nor Amazon App Store is available on Eversolo units, I guess there's no other way around...

Yeah I don’t think there is unfortunately. I guess you could contact Bubble and see if there’s a way

You need Bubbleupnp licence app. But even then without Playstore it may not work.
