SACD ISO Patcher — a tidy SACD library on your Eversolo

Thanks for educating me, I love learning something new every day! Also, that system makes perfect sense for standardization and space contraints.

 

I know this but there is a space difference of over 50% between a dsf and a dff compressed in dst, since I have a lot of dsd I would like to use the dff/dst and I'm looking for a way to tag the dffs well to make them work well in the eversolo..... The program that is suggested here I still don't understand how to use it, I just registered on discogs but then I don't know what to do.....

 

1) Register on Discogs. In your Discogs account settings, go to Developers and create your own token. Copy it and save it.
2) Launch the program. Go to "Settings" and paste your Discogs token there. Click "Save".
3) Drag the SACD ISO into the program window, or use "Open ISO" in the top menu and select your ISO file.
4) The ISO will be loaded into the program.

5) If "ALBUM TITLE" and "ALBUM ARTIST" are filled in, the track names are present, and you do not need anything else, then proceed to step 6.
6) At the bottom there is an "Extract..." button. Click it. In the window that opens, choose:
Format: .dff (DST - exact copy)
Area: whichever you want
Tracks: leave empty if you want all tracks, or specify exactly which tracks you want to export
Folder: click "Browse..." and select the folder where your tracks should be extracted
Click "Extract" and go have a smoke.
7) When all tracks have been extracted, they will be in the folder you selected.

5a) If ALBUM TITLE and ALBUM ARTIST are empty, there are no track names, and you want to fill all this in, go to Discogs and search for the release of this disc — it must be the SACD release.
When you find it, copy the URL and paste it into the field in the program to the right of "Find", then click "Fetch" to the right of the field where you pasted the URL.
If you found the correct release, the program will offer to apply the downloaded metadata. Accept it.
After that, if everything looks good, click "Save changes" in the bottom left, then continue with step (6).

If you cannot figure out how to paste the Discogs URL and fetch the data automatically, fill it in manually. The important fields are ALBUM TITLE, ALBUM ARTIST, and the track names.
Then click "Save changes" in the bottom left and continue with step (6).

I honestly cannot imagine how someone could fail to understand this program — you killed me. Also, you say that the program is unclear to you, but you do not say what exactly is unclear. I do not have a crystal ball to read your mind.

 

I registered and generated the token but I don't understand where I have to paste it.....

Unfortunately, I use a translator and maybe I can't explain, but I didn't say I don't understand the program because I still can't use it, I don't know how to open it, I'm only stuck on the discogs subscription and I generated the token, I'm stuck here......

There must be some problem with your ripping configuration, as DSF and DFF achieve the same level of compression... checked it myself commuting from one format to another using ffmpeg...

 

You are wrong because I do not mean the uncompressed dff but the dff in dst, the dsf is without compression as is the dff, with the dff compressed in dst you save over 50% of space, you can get it either by extracting the sacd with sacd extract or with foobar with the foo_dsd_converter add-on

 

And cannot you just compress the dsf...?

 

Compressed .dsf does not exist. In .dsf, bits are stored least significant bit first; in .dff/DST, they are stored most significant bit first. If you reverse the bits, you get the same uncompressed audio in .dff order, with all the resulting consequences. I posted the “what is what” picture above - everything is written there.

There's a way to compress DSFs and DFFs, and it's very simple, but unfortunately Eversolo doesn't support it natively. That is, Wavpacks only play in PCM, not DSD. However, Eversolo supports and plays the DFF/DST format natively in DSD, but unfortunately, it drives you crazy with the tags. That's why I've been asking for a while if Eversolo can add Wavpack/DSD support, but unfortunately, it doesn't.

You've made a wonderful program, and I congratulate you. Finally, you can organize your library with the SACD tags. Unfortunately, I didn't realize you published the zip file with the program, but I thought it had to be opened from the Discogs site. It would be great if you could make a program to tag DFFs. I use a program called Kid3, which works great and also lets me tag DFFs, but not all the fields are recognized by Eversolo. With your program, however, by tagging the ISO and then extracting the contents into DFF, the tags are also transferred to the DFF file.

 

Editing individual files is not part of my program’s roadmap. You can edit the entire ISO and then extract .dsf/.dff/.dst/edit_master from it, as I already wrote to you. The extracted .dst files, as you need them, will have the artist and album metadata too.

 

Yes, I know, it's just that I've already extracted a lot of them without the ISOs, and I can't find a program as good as yours for tagging them...

Screenshots clearly show the loss in metadata when extracting to DFF format.
You have to pay for everything - by saving disk space (and why save it, is it difficult to install another HDD), we lose metadata useful for cataloging (especially for large collections).

Unfortunately, the extraction process takes a very long time (!?), while giving the impression that the program is stuck - maybe you should provide some kind of indicator showing that the program is busy with a very important task , and not stuck.

DSDIFF has only two dedicated text fields for metadata, and we already write both of them:
- DIAR (Artist) §3.7.3 - artist name, one string.
- DITI (Title) §3.7.4 - title (album/project), one string.
That is all. There are no dedicated fields for year, catalog number, genre, label, copyright, publisher, ISRC, or track number in DSDIFF. It is a very poor container in terms of tags. What can be shoved in beyond these two - comments: (COMT) §3.6 - free text, any number of entries (up to 65535). Each one has: creation date + type (0=general/album, 1=channel, 2=recording source, 3=file history) + the text itself. Technically, you can put Year, Catalog, Genre, Label etc, but this is free text, not structured tags, and players display comments unpredictably. Many ignore them.

Therefore, it is obvious that the most reasonable extraction option is the DSF format. Saving disk space does not pay off with the loss of information.

I don’t have this issue, and after editing the ISO everything is displayed correctly. Try setting the Eversolo options as shown in the screenshot, or look for another David Bowie image where the artist name is written in uppercase letters. By the way, did you rescan the library after saving the changes to the image and adding it to the library?

 

Maybe the software just renders the artist name in uppercase...?!?

First, I want to apologize to @Jorgo: there really are SACDs with only one area - multichannel, with no stereo layer. I apologize for doubting what he said.
The next update, hopefully soon, will focus on optimizing track extraction - speed and features. It will also add the ability to encode during extraction (DSD -> DST) if the disc contains only raw DSD, plus a few small informational and cosmetic improvements.
After that, once I get discs where the stereo content differs from the multichannel content, I will separate editing for the stereo and multichannel areas.
Then there will be a CLI for people who prefer scripts and text mode. It already exists in general, but I am not including it in the release yet.
At the same time, if possible, I will work on optimizing the encoder, but that part is very complex.
So that is the rough roadmap...

 

I discovered why David Bowie wrote it in capital letters for me, just go to the track list and click on the arrow, a table opens with several fields, where the first is "performer", that's where it was written in capital letters, so I corrected it and now it's fine, unfortunately you have to do it for each individual track, I don't see a way to change it all at once..... also I discovered that by filling in all those fields, everything is transferred to the dff file, so in this way there are many more tags for those like me who extract the contents of the iso in dff/dst
