This is a server side update, also Spotify Connect icon also changed for my PLAY:

    but it's still "just" 16bit

Yes. It is only 16-bit for Eversolo

I assume it has to do with the actual music master. Lots are not available in native 24 bit. Some services upsampke to make you think there is more than there is. If you check schiit dacs, many don’t even support more than 16 bit. You can read thei earthy discussions of why.

Master is the same as the source is the same: Spotify. I have posted pictures of the exactly same song: 24bits streaming to the Marantz and 16bits streaming to Eversolo

Yes thats it what I have seen too. Eversolo is not playing 24 bit streams that are actually 24 bit.

It theoretically can, as it's also related to information stored on the server: region / account-type, app version. Once all these details match, the app itself could allow discovery / connection / quality settings, etc. etc.

16 bit issue is interesting. It’s also possible that what is being reported (as 16 bit) is just wrong. That was the case, according to Spotify 2nd level tech support, when people were choosing “very high” 320), but when it was playing it was showing “Normal” It was showing normal but if you selected 320, Spotify 2nd level tech support said it really was playing 320.

It would be great if my DAC would show what is really being passed in terms of 16 vs 24, but it does not. Does anyone have a DAC that conveys this information, to see if 16 is really 24?

Also, when I choose Qobuz, and it says 24, eversolo is also reporting 24.

The RME ADI2 FS DAC has a display page I think which shows the bit depth and the sampling rate for its digital inputs.

Hello everyone, I have updated my DMP-A8 a few minutes ago to the latest FW 1.5.45 (latest App version also).
Now I can choose the DMP IMG_0103.png IMG_0102.png in Spotify native app on the device, but although it shows lossless in one and the same song, it only gets to 16 bit. When I switch to rk3566 (its smartphone name?) it gets up to 24 bit.
Can you explain this? Not sure what to choose. I don‘t use Spotify connect - only the native app on the device. On my mobile devices (iPhone, iPad) I can also see that the song is 24 bit.
    See enclosed pictures please.

I checked on WiiM devices and 24 bit songs are playing but they show 16 bit on Eversolo when I play them there .

so is the Eversolo display wrong or it can’t play 24 bit Spotify yet ? I updated to latest firmware today and that didn’t change the issue

Thanks for your reply. Obviously it can play 24bit when I switch to rk3566. What is the difference? Is it treated as a smartphone then? Please see pix upon this.

My iPhone shows 24 bit on certain songs.

With current resources, we can only achieve lossless 16-bit. However, we will not give up and have been communicating with Spotify.

No wonder my WiiM sounded better to me using Spotify versus the Eversolo going into the same dac .
I hope Eversolo can resolve this issue as it ends up being a half baked version of Spotify’s new lossless subscription service.

    With resources you mean Hardware?

Thanks. Does this mean Eversolo is technically able to stream 24bit Spotify, but you don't have the head count resources to work on it now, or that it's really up to Spotify to solve?

I think with "resources" it is meant what Spotify is currently providing to them (16-bit lossless). Hence why they say they are in communication with Spotify (for full 24-bit lossless capabilities).
    But that's just my interpretation.

could it be that the 'native' resolution in the Spotify catalogue is restricted to only CD-quality = 16bit/44.1 khz ?
