Do you have the USB DAC output setting of the DMP-A6 ME set "Native (DSD Native)"? If you do are you sure the USB input of the Pioneer U-05 processes DSD natively?
Ok. Not sure what the issue may be. Using the USB out of the DMP-A6 to the USB-DAC input of my Marantz SA-KI Ruby I get DSD.
Question, is DSD a thing now? I was under the impression that it’s not really used now due to hi res PCM / etc.. Thoughts?
It is "a thing" the same way hi-res PCM is "a thing". Basically, hi-res (well, it's more a high sample-rate) PCM has little to no improvement to your hearing, BUT can help the DAC itself, as almost every single DAC out there DOES upsampling, and so you give it some relief presenting it with already up(over?) sampled material. One draw back for DSD: you cannot apply any (ANY) form of sound manipulation to a DSD stream without PRIOR converting it to linear PCM (which is a resource consuming process, if not also a time - read: latency, if you watch movies, or video-clips...). The real differences are in the mastering and mixing of the source: some albums are done well, some others are not. The better done, the more detail, soundstage, instrument separation, etc. etc. As a mere example, in my collection of CDs (about 1400, all ripped to FLAC myself) there are about 50 that are mastered and mixed in an exceptional way, and do sound different from the others in the terms expressed before. Also, when critical listening, I tend to turn the lights off and listen with my eyes closed. Silly? It helps me reduce external distraction, leaving my brains concentrate to one source of stimuli: the ears.
Thank you for your reply. So I presume you have to purchase / download DSD tracks / albums or is there streaming services? I presume not the latter ..
I have not seen a DSD streaming service... yet. Other legal options are: Purchasing albums on SACD and ripping the DSD tracks with a compatible hardware. Purchase tracks online (HDTracks offers some DSD, including multi-ch => https://www.hdtracks.com/#/see-all-albums?q=dsd)
I am sending a dsd file to a denafrips ares 2 dac from a a6 series 2 via usb The eversolo screen is showing dsd64 2.82mhz 5 ch 14.11 mbps 1 bit. PCM 352.8 kHz The denafrips dac is showing a file at high resolution, but the DSD light is not lighting up.
Maybe that is because it's a multichannel file. Have you tried playing a stereo DSD file? Also what do you have "DSD audio" set to in the "USB DAC output" settings?
Thanks. I was mostly posting because the top of this string says to list DACs where there are issues. It’s possible about the multi-channel being an issue. I actually only have the one DSD file to test though . The eversolo is set up to pass native DSD,not PCM.
Probably it performs a downmixing from 5.1 to 2 channels, and since any manipulation of DSD files cannot be performed without FIRST converting them to PCM, that could be the reason why it gets converted... You should try a 2-channel DSD; there are some sites that offer files for download, mainly demos, or something in the lines of; nevertheless, pure stereo. Just scratched the web quickly, try here: https://wechdomi.org/english/index.html
I’ll give that a shot. Last device I used it in was an oppo205 that did its own conversion. I literally only tried it because I had the file. I’m not driven to collect a lot of dsd files
I have similar combo of Ares 2 and DMP-A6 Master Edition. Today I bought an album as DSD 256 . Plays perfectly, sounds great and DSD light lights up.
Looks like it. i think you were right that the problem was the file I was trying to play was multi channel.
I had purchased DSD music from HDtracts, [Susan Wong: My LIVE stories] and [Susan Wong: Close to Me] . [Susan Wong: My LIVE stories] is DSD/64/5.1 Surround and [Susan Wong: Close to Me] is DSD/64. In A10, only [Susan Wong: Close to Me] is play with DSD 2.82 MHz, and [Susan Wong: My LIVE stories] play with PCM 352.8 kHZ. Why? Does A10 not support DSD 5.1? How to solve the problem?
