The EDID you provided me did the trick in unlocking the 8K resolutions... Unfortunately, it removed all standard HDR capabilities..LOL..

I can either play media in DV or SDR but not HDR..

The main reason I upgraded was to play all flavours of HCG in their native formats. Thank you so much for your efforts, but I value this more than the ability to play 8K files natively...

However, in using the EDID you provided, I feel that it may have provided a slight edge in colour "depth" in DV..although I'm certain that this must be a placebo effect.. HDR and HDR10 titles played back in the expected sunburned modes.. The EDID page in settings clearly indicated that HDR was not supported while DV was..

It's possible the colour primaries in the Dolby Block are slightly different to the EDID you were using but since both should target BT.2020 I wouldn't expect you to see a difference - but you never know!

On a related note, do you know how to delete an EDID from the list that appears on the ZIDOO?

MENU button for the ZIDOO was already programmed into my HARMONY...Old EDID removed, new one successfully installed and confirmed working!

I've created 2 folders using 'Source Widgets', one for music and one for movies.
The image shown for these two widgets is an image of a HDD.
Is it possible to change this image?

 

Yes, highlight the widget and press Menu.

Attached is a zip of the included widget pngs or you can make your own.

 

Thanks for the link but there isn't one for 'Music'. I wouldn't have a clue how to make my own.
@OlivierQC created some nice icons but they do not work with HT 5.0 from what I read, which is a shame.

 

I've bought a new WD 16TB desktop hard drive and I will be copying all my music and movies from the smaller hard drive I have been using with the Zidoo, onto it.

I have saved a backup of settings with the Backup/Restore option onto the smaller hard drive I have been using with the Zidoo but when I check the folder where I saved the backup on my Win 11 computer, the folder is empty.

I was going to copy this folder over onto the 16TB hard drive but why is it empty?

 

Does anybody know if the AML S928X has some issue with HDR to SDR conversion?
I recently moved my Z9X 8K to living room and use with a SDR projector, previously I used Z9X with the same setup and HDR to SDR works very well.
However Z9X 8K produce much less vivid picure, everything looks grey and no liveless. I have sold Z9X so can't compare side by side, but I can tell by naked eyes that something is obviously wrong.
AI has been turned off, and output is set to SDR. VS10 engine is enabled for all HDR content.
What other settings that I can tweak? Can't believe the newer and supposed to be better player produce much worse PQ so must be something with my configuration..

 

No, definitely not - the conversion is pretty much the same, albeit with a later version of VS10. Definitely no issues here - HDR to SDR using VS10 is very convincing.

When you say grey and lifeless, that's exactly how I would describe how an HDR image looks when viewed on an SDR device - almost no colour.

Can you play some content that exhibits this behaviour and take a screenshot of the info screen while playing the content?

 

When connecting my new 16TB external hard drive to the Zidoo for first time, having copied all content over from my smaller hard drive, the Zidoo will automatically start scraping.

What is the best way of getting the Zidoo to fill in the correct information which I already have on the old hard drive?

I've saved a backup but does this backup have all the information needed?

If I can use the backup, what is the process: After scraping, do I then use the saved backup and it will sort out any errors?

 

When playing a video, there's an option in settings for Audio Delay (Global). Is there a faster way to activate this (as it takes around 10+ presses to reach it ... ie. settings, scroll down 5x, then 5x again to go to Audio Delay). I have a concert video that changes audio delay around halfway (to 400ms) and again around 3/4 the way (1500ms).

 

There is a process to transfer the library from one location to another but it requires that the old library, ie "Sources" are not deleted and you do not scan the new source.

You may be able to revert to the old source and then carry out this procedure:


Synchronise Data from Other Source
==========================

1. Do not delete your old source(s) from HT!!

2. Once the old source is disconnected and the new one set up with EXACTLY the same movies etc,
add it as a new source but DO NOT SCAN IT (press <Return> when prompted to scan).

3. Now select it, press <menu> and choose "Synchronise data from other source"

4. Choose the old source and the old library will be applied to the new files

5. Once this is done and confirmed working, you can delete the old source
