Excellent post perhaps this could become a ‘sticky’, required reading for every subjective listener. Keith
I did a lot of listening and blind testing with PSU swaps too. Also changing op-amps where possible. In fact I never was able to hear an improvement on S/N ratio for the analog part. The weakest link for most DAC's in my perception is the Crystal. Never could technically or by measurements explain why a nanocrystal could sound any better but they actually do. Many will hear the difference between the DMP-A6 SE and the ME doing blind tests. The same with DMP-A6 SE and a DMP-A8/A10. Not a huge difference but audible by many when knowing what to listen for (positioning above all). The PSU quality has some impact on the crystal stability and is occasionally audible using high quality crystals with a cheap PSU. But one should not expect miracles. I have the impression (no blind testing) that my DMP-A6 Linear PSU swap improved HDMI Output somewhat to my Onkyo TX70 AMP. Now testing a Dune HD Max 8K for that setup as it uses a TCXO crystal for all digital outputs. It is all about the weakest link in the chain and I only can agree improving a quality product is far from easy.
And reporting his post for insulting content doesn't do anything. They really won’t hear the difference and an unsighted comparison ( as I performed) would confirm that. It you don’t have any controls then your ‘findings’ are just fairy stories. Keith
I haven´t followed the thread for month, but nothing has and will ever change and why is that: Quote of Terry Kim (CPA/PWC): "Without trying to force my point of view, let me try to answer this using a formula that I use to make sense of life, and it is, most of our/human behavior can be explained by our need to feel significant. Now, if I’m having a conversation with someone and they immediately start forcing their point of view on me (or vice versa – because I do it too), it’s because the person is in phase of life which can be described by “life sucks”. The level of insignificance that person feels about life is so high that the moment an opportunity to feel significance is identified – they launch into it. The whole point of the conversation is not an exchange of ideas. It’s an opportunity to feel significance. Now, in the more likely scenario – when you’re having a conversation which starts with an exchange of ideas that leads to someone forcing their opinion on the other person – it’s because the desire to feel significant has surfaced during the conversation. The opinion that I had (which I actually don’t care for that much) transforms into something that represents my significance. During the conversation, as my opinion gets questioned over and over again – the insignificance that I have is going to escalate and as a result I’m going to do something stupid like forcing my opinion on someone else because I need to regain the significance that I lost." That pretty much sums it up for me.
I Always remember, look at the other side of the coin, put yourself in the other guys position, A closed mind is like a parachute, it’s useless if it doesn’t open. ( Frank Zappa ) Excellent video , excellent example.
