Excellent post perhaps this could become a ‘sticky’, required reading for every subjective listener. Keith
I did a lot of listening and blind testing with PSU swaps too. Also changing op-amps where possible. In fact I never was able to hear an improvement on S/N ratio for the analog part. The weakest link for most DAC's in my perception is the Crystal. Never could technically or by measurements explain why a nanocrystal could sound any better but they actually do. Many will hear the difference between the DMP-A6 SE and the ME doing blind tests. The same with DMP-A6 SE and a DMP-A8/A10. Not a huge difference but audible by many when knowing what to listen for (positioning above all). The PSU quality has some impact on the crystal stability and is occasionally audible using high quality crystals with a cheap PSU. But one should not expect miracles. I have the impression (no blind testing) that my DMP-A6 Linear PSU swap improved HDMI Output somewhat to my Onkyo TX70 AMP. Now testing a Dune HD Max 8K for that setup as it uses a TCXO crystal for all digital outputs. It is all about the weakest link in the chain and I only can agree improving a quality product is far from easy.

They really won’t hear the difference and an unsighted comparison ( as I performed) would confirm that. It you don’t have any controls then your ‘findings’ are just fairy stories. Keith
I haven´t followed the thread for month, but nothing has and will ever change and why is that: Quote of Terry Kim (CPA/PWC): "Without trying to force my point of view, let me try to answer this using a formula that I use to make sense of life, and it is, most of our/human behavior can be explained by our need to feel significant. Now, if I’m having a conversation with someone and they immediately start forcing their point of view on me (or vice versa – because I do it too), it’s because the person is in phase of life which can be described by “life sucks”. The level of insignificance that person feels about life is so high that the moment an opportunity to feel significance is identified – they launch into it. The whole point of the conversation is not an exchange of ideas. It’s an opportunity to feel significance. Now, in the more likely scenario – when you’re having a conversation which starts with an exchange of ideas that leads to someone forcing their opinion on the other person – it’s because the desire to feel significant has surfaced during the conversation. The opinion that I had (which I actually don’t care for that much) transforms into something that represents my significance. During the conversation, as my opinion gets questioned over and over again – the insignificance that I have is going to escalate and as a result I’m going to do something stupid like forcing my opinion on someone else because I need to regain the significance that I lost." That pretty much sums it up for me.
I Always remember, look at the other side of the coin, put yourself in the other guys position, A closed mind is like a parachute, it’s useless if it doesn’t open. ( Frank Zappa ) Excellent video , excellent example.
power. ferrite core or bead. I've tried, to see what worked. took supra lorad. and cables, with shuko plug, bought ferrite core, 12mm for thin cables 10mm. put 2 ferrite cores on the cable. for eversolo dmp6 master edition gen 1. switch mode in eversolo. there is a 1 year warranty. on the eversolo. bought polier panda. only available in europe. then I have. 3 frequency ranges. polier panda. 200hz to 150khz. supra lorad 50khz to 2mhz. large ferrite cores, are important- goes 2mhz to 25mhz. gives really good sound, or is my brain playing tricks on me. it takes emi / rfi, and a little ripple too.
Hey Frank, if it sounds good to you, then it is good. That’s all that matters folks have been arguing or let’s see debating these type of differences for 30 years. The reason why I chose that timeframe off the top of my head as I would say that appears when the custom power cords started to become popular, Do you have access to an a oscilloscope ✅ I have a couple older ones here some of them only go up to 100 mg’s But that’s good enough or perfect for someone that’s using tube equipment, like myself A few of us have experimented with different type of cables with using a dale / Resistor At either end of audio cables, you will see there There are some interesting looking differences on the screen naturally, How good they might be is another question, also, depending upon what resistor , the AMRT’s are nice a bit $$ One experiment that we did find that did make somewhat of an absolute difference is rotating the polarity of your plug from your wall outlet All stock chords I could be wrong but probably starting back in the late 60s or early 70s. I would say our polarized one side a little larger than the other, so the plug can only go in the receptacle one way, So what you might want to try is get a DVM meter and a cheater or an adapter plug onto the end of the power cord this will enable you to plug the cord into the outlet and give you the ability to reverse it, Look at the reading on your DVM meter to ground when you get the lowest reading or read out that’s correct. They used to be a company by the name of, PCS SUPER IDOS, that made a complete black box which I believe had 12 outlets on it gave you four digital outlets that were totally isolated then had Rose of analog outlets totally is isolated from the digital outlets as stated As you rotate the plug, both polarized normal and reversed we did pick up a slight difference and overall smoothness psychically speaking Sometime lifting the ground on digital equipment can sound quite rewarding with an extremely revealing system, if your speakers are of super high efficiency folks that own such SPEAKERS will most likely tell you every little change that they make in the system matters I had all that information on the super pac IDOS units , Probably 20 years ago I’m certain I still have the literature downstairs and wanted the filing cabinets, They were extremely popular for quite a while, As the unit provided everything, your AC switching current meter outlets, he gave you everything in its entirety for lack of better terminology . But we have heard certain minor changes from time to time years ago back when guys would stay up for two days really and couldn’t sleep until they believe they had things right, To me, it’s all system dependent. I have seen some systems take to these type of things much better than others But just speaking from my own past experiences along with working with a few other guys yes you absolutely can’t pick up on changes minor, You could absolutely pick them up on a scope, but of course this would be natural, As far as sonic being able to hear, it may be another story, In other words, it all depends really everything matters no matter who says what, Frank, I usually get my information from a guy a bit older than me that spent several years at MIT university so commonly speaking I’ll usually take his word for it, I’m not saying that makes it correct but it makes sense to me. Very happy to see some folks are kind of still experimenting in different areas is such but the information I stated, Always be careful with the ground as I was taught the ground wire is probably the most important cable in the electrical system, But again, if you can lift it off the digital end, you usually will hear a cleaner improvement on the right system, I have read some guys some guys Are still currently using this PAC IDOS UNIT ? Have to give it on My EVERSOLO A8, Not a professional Frank, just giving you my own opinion and my own experiences that I have witnessed myself, There is really only one gentleman on here that I would actually take Advice off of that. I relate to and he makes perfect sense, And yes, he is also an ex electrical engineer I I’ve taken definite notice that some of the CD players and transports that are current models As of this date The ground connection or input has been totally eliminated , Just took a quick glance at a newer Rega unit I use another room, Just to be certain, there’s no factory ground Pin or power cord provision at all, So I would assume that that’s probably telling me something As far as the ground wire or hook up wire with a digital unit, A bit surprising for factory unit But best of luck with that Frank be careful please enjoy your music and your equipment and have a wonderful week ;-) Sorry , I just went over to Google search for a minute, There is still quite a bit of information That pertains also to what you are doing and also on the PAC super IDOS UNITs Just thought I would let you know if you had any interest I am surprised There is still information available on these unit And others, yes, it gets interesting
hello Frank, sorry not absolutely sure maneuvering these pictures around with this iPhone instead of buying more stereo equipment and parts I should invest in a decent laptop But what you were trying to do again very interesting. I believe this unit not exactly but kind of sorta would work in the same fashion to a certain degree when you take the bottom cover off, you can change different capacitors and resistors like I said I was surprised there’s still quite a few guys using this unit. I temporarily retired mine until I can get the rest of the system together, but this unit somewhat reminded me of what you were doing. Sorry I just figured I would show it to you. OK thank you sorry to bother you. Have a wonderful day.
