Unfortunately I have updated my NAS (Synology) to a new DSM. Only through this it became necessary to look around for alternatives. Because LMS ran only under DSM6.x no longer under DSM7. - My experience is also that it is more necessary to get the APP running properly. The point that was raised here, that new files are poorly integrated is serious. An update of the files should not take as long as a new reading of the entire files. Yes, we have been pampered by LMS in this direction. Correctly adjusted, it was hardly noticed that newly added files were read in correctly, because new files were automatically recognized. I probably would have even kept my hardware if LMS had continued to be supported by the new Diskstation operating systems.
Did Synology have a native app/addon for LMS? I've no experience with these devices but can you run docker containers on them? If so, couldn't you run LMS with a docker image?
LMS evolved over time, and the version available for NAS devices was often behind. Given the changing landscape, its not surprising that newer devices and new versions for old devices would decide to drop this. Fortunately, piCorePlayer running on a Pi makes for small and inexpensive LMS server, which should be able to read files from the NAS, and it runs the latest version.
A cursory glance at the LMS (slimserver) forums shows others have the standard lms community docker image running on DSM 7. A Pi does make a solid alternative though.
Yes - i found that detailled Instruction here: https://www.abacus-electronics.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2631#p2631 but - not all Synology Devices are able to install the docker. Unfortunately mine is the 2-bay: DS218 ( not plus )
Ah okay, I see they only offer docker for their x86 boxes. https://wiki.servarr.com/docker-arm-synology If your feeling a little devil may care, you could run this random script from the internet!! Not sure how tested or wise this process is but saw it mentioned on reddit as working for arm Synologys. The only caveat is that you have to use network host mode which is fine for LMS as you need to do that anyway for UPnP to work.
@mirror Wow. Christmas has come early it seems!!! Absolutely fantastic! Is there a beta to try or sign up too??
Haha, patience is a virtue! More than happy to wait for this feature. The integration looks great. These Eversolo products will be the best all in one streamer/dac combos for LMS users by far. Now just got to forget about it until it's ready...
This is essentially the killer app for me with this box - the A6 just can't cope with my library of 120,000 plus tracks collected over the last 3 decades, and as you know, LMS breezes through such a library with ease. I also have LMS integrated in Crestron touch panels around the house and have players everywhere, including outside, so this will be a great addition and might even replace my Linn DS...
Out of curiosity, not being personally aware how such LMS is implemented, the fact that the A6 isn't able to cope with large libraries like LMS is in your opinion a software lack of optimisation or an hardware limitation?
OK, thank you. Do you happen to have any insight from within Eversolo whether there is any plan that this function will be improved at software level?
Will the Eversolo be able to do 5.1 flac files from LMS? I'm using the DLNA plugin in LMS to foobar which does 5.1 nicely but would love to be able to use an Eversolo instead.
Sorry, I have no idea - it's something I brought up very early on pre-release and I haven't had any feedback about it at all. I decided this player was no good for my main library but was superb for the relatively few SACD rips I have, so I'd kind of decided that's the way I'd use it. Now, with LMS integration it's a whole new ball game for me although there is still the problem that the A6 will need to be kept powered on to always be available to LMS which is a pain.
Don't know for sure as I don't have any 5.1 flac to test. I'd expect so as LMS is just passing a stream to the A6.
I am really looking forward to the native integration of an lms player on A6. I have the A6 for about 2 weeks now, and i’m really liking the device. But as a lms user for over 10 years, i’m missing the ease of queing tracks from mixed sources. The inability to put a single song in the now playing queue is the greatest problem of the A6 for me right now. I solved that temporary with a Roon subscription for 3 months, but I like LMS more than Roon. For the rest the A6 is stable, fast and really good sounding. I used it with an external DAC (SMSL D400ES), but the SMSL is going back. In two blind tests with 3 people, the verdict was unanimous, we liked the internal dac of the A6 more. If anyone is interested, I will do a mini review.
