Limit volume with digital output

Repurposed my DMP-A6 at my office, connected to a Peachtree GAN-1. Sounds great but the initial volume is very high and I like to listen to my music pretty low in the office. Any suggestions on how to lower the digital output volume? Playing with the Digital Volume Limit setting does NOTHING. is that a bug? (I tried Analog volume limit, nothing either).

I am connecting the A6 to the GAN-1 via digital SPDIF output. The GAN-1 has no controls, strictly an amp with one type of input.

    Thank you

You control its volume by the A6, then, right?
Doesn't the A6 have a sort of volume memory, like it remembers the volume level it was last set to? Or maybe this applies to the analog outs only... :-(
Does the GAN-1 have a input gain setting, so that you can play with it?

I am trying to do the same thing and use the A6's coax digital output and volume control to sent to some active speakers:

I am having exactly the same issue with the lowest volume being very high, and then very few steps of volume control. I can only assume that this feature doesn't currently work as intended, and would be keen for a fix.

The 16 steps of volume control in digital domain was there since the initial release and is one of the reasons that A6 did not make to into Peachtree GAN 1 recommended sources. It would be nice to request the Eversolo team to check if it could be modified to be like the analog version of volume control with 100 steps.

Thank you, so good to know that. I have a node x that I can pair with my Gan-1 once my M66 arrives. The A6 will end up back on VPN duty playing my US streams out here in Asia. UNLESS the Eversolo team can resolve this? Fingers crossed, they have a good rep for listening :D

@mirror Are you able to say if this is a feature that Eversolo are looking at?

I can understand that most people will want the digital out set to pass-through for an offboard DAC with volume control or a pre-amp, but if you have active speakers without remote volume control or digital power amplifiers, having a digital volume control on your source is really important. There should be no down side for users that don't need this function, as the digital output could still be fixed to pass-through (just as you can do with the analogue outputs), if done well digital volume control has very little effect on the quality of the signal (the A6 already has an EQ function which also alters the digital signal), and it should be relatively easy to implement (it has been a feature in all of my previous digital streamers).

Most users will use the analogue volume control or the digital pass-through mode, but for those who need it, having digital volume control is a very valuable feature.

The only question I have, is what the usability and function is of the slider for analog volume limit, when using the A6 as a streamer only with the digital volume off.

What would be the purpose of the analogue volume controls if using the A6 as a streamer (to a DAC I presume)? The output would remain in the digital domain all the way to the DAC.

I have it connected to a DDC going to a DAC to a preamp.
Nothing seriously seems to happen when moving this analog slider. 0dB or 100 dB ? Recommended ?
    My thank you’s.

The most logical answer up to now seems /is that the analog output slider has no function at all, when using only the fixed digital output stream to a DAC etc.
    Many thanks…
