Dear all, Has anyone replaced the standard PSU with the Leafaudio PW08-A8 Digital Broadcast unit? Shop link: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005009363268827.html?pdp_ext_f={"order":"10","eval":"1","fromPage":"search"}&gatewayAdapt=glo2deu There are two variants available — Mundorf and Nichicon — both offered in 110V and 220V versions. The price ranges from €270 (Nichicon) to €310 (Mundorf), excluding any import duties and taxes from China. My Eversolo DMP-A8 is currently in the kitchen, having been replaced in the main room by the T8/Z10. It is paired with Canton Vento bookshelf speakers, which already deliver a very vivid and detailed sound in a relatively wide stage. I believe I should therefore be able to notice any improvements in sound quality, even under these kitchen listening conditions. I could find some statements about the older LHY AUDIO LPS-A8 PSU replacement, but not about this one. Does this kit, which includes a voltage regulator board, also offer a non-destructive replacement? I would appreciate any experiences or recommendations.
I've ordered the Mundorf/220V edition. I will report the improvements here once received and integrated.
YOUR , post I would appreciate any recommendations or experiences, I absolutely admit no need for such explicit varying detail, but you had asked. I had the extra time and I gave you somewhat of an opinion. I was never one for short essays as I’m most certain you can ascertain. I’m not in disagreement with yourself, next time perhaps use a multiple choice system or just Google or ask for yes or no answer, don’t ask for recommendations experiences, somewhat heavily embellished, I certainly agree, but a little bit of Prose, From folks or guys here that been doing this, probably since I was in grade school always offered a wealth of knowledge from all their experiences, worked for me just my opinion you’re certainly entitled to yours, I’ll tell you what Let me delete it and let The situation be over and rectified, no problems But it’s all good. Lots of luck with your new power supply best wishes no adverse reaction here no worries, by the way, perhaps a little bit in the enlightenment a true technical fourm would’ve just begin to get started. Have you came across or happened to read any lately?on any topic in question or technicality of anything informative or technical equations of use trial error I don’t think so. You’ve been cheating. Lol you have a wonderful day enjoy However, that does not change my opinion. I still like the name, SNAKE OIL ✔️
I just installed the Leafaudio PW08-A8 into my A8 last week. The difference is dramatic. I have been enjoying the A8 since it was first released. Best piece of kit I ever purchased in this hobby. I use it for 2 channel and the ARC input for my TV. I have the Galion A75/P75 Amp/Pre with upgraded Ray tubes. Rotate speakers Spatial M4, Linn Nexus LS250, ADS 730, Tekton Lore Be, Totem Hawks, and Klipsh KG4. Denon DP62L turntable , Darlington Labs phono pre. Installation was straight forward. Watched a couple videos. Unit has definitely lowered the noise floor. Increased soundstage, seperation, and imaging. Runs a little warmer than the original. No hiccups yet. Very happy so far.
A well‑designed PSU is enough When a manufacturer does its job, the PSU only needs to meet: • correct voltage • correct current capability • low ripple within spec • thermal stability • proper isolation Once those boxes are checked, the rest of the noise is handled inside the device: • local regulators • LDOs • DC‑DC converters • decoupling networks • op‑amp PSRR • DAC chip PSRR • ground‑plane design These stages exist precisely so the PSU doesn’t determine the sound. If the PSU were the bottleneck, the product would be poorly designed. Linear PSUs are not inherently “cleaner.” They simply move noise to a different part of the spectrum. Switching PSUs: • high‑frequency noise, easy to filter • efficient • stable under load Linear PSUs: • low‑frequency ripple, harder to filter • generate heat • can sag under dynamic load A modern DAC/streamer is designed around switching supplies because they’re predictable and easy to regulate downstream. If a linear PSU made a dramatic difference, it would show up in: • SINAD • noise floor • jitter • IMD • dynamic range But every measurement lab that has tested this finds no measurable change. And if it’s not measurable, it’s not audible. • If the original PSU is already good, replacing it won’t transform the device. • Claims of “night and day” improvements contradict how regulated digital audio systems actually work. • Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, and none exists here. That’s not cynicism. That’s engineering literacy.
Hi, That’s a very interesting interpretation, or statement but have you looked for any evidence that actively contradicts your statement or post . If you take the opposite approach or view, perhaps You may Find just as much evidence to suggest or give comment, calling this subjective is just a fancy way of saying you don’t like the conclusion, but can’t find the error in the math , wright ? why do you think that is ? Just curious…… Please have a wonderful week enjoy
Hello Alberto , i’m not going to speak on measurements although I am extremely well aware very important, imperative and necessary an absolute road map to where we are headed . But this PSU for the DMP A8, absolutely did make a substantial difference in push drive grunt and overall dynamics, A friend of mine within our audio group has been using this particular PSU for quite some time, and has been very pleased with it along with himself and others that are extremely familiar with his Audio reproduction system. he had very accurately reported that after the installation of this particular PSU he had to readjust both of his subwoofers and take the gain output down approximately a notch or two, what were the settings before in actual DB before ? This was really not a pertinent question or thought at the time of Sonic comparison , however the gain output of his 2 Entech subwoofers, 1.0 to 1.5 - minus of the previous or original output level of the Standard production units output . the aftermarket PSU is absolutely without question operating and performing very differently over the stock PSU, I would certainly say these Sonic differences and variations would Somewhat differ from one audio system in comparison to another, I am not certain what these differences technically entail in complete terms of design , no technical schematic or white papers available, but absolutely it did make a very Audible Sonic difference using this particular PSU , in design this implements 3 ultra linear Transformers, plus The addition and use of a entirely separate regulation top installation board , is part of this conversion . Most definite changes in Sonic effect, where most definitely noticeably in the region of approximately 300 or 400 Hz on down at 18db per octave within his particular audio system in use. I don’t want to sound condescending, I believe we have repetitiously been over this PSU at the very minimum 4 or 5 + separate occasions, I will cease further information , as some folks do not like lengthy or more in depth, explanatory information or explanations as to how this device or unit installs, operates ect . Along with some very interesting operating and technical information Im certain you will ascertain any details or information within your own abilities and observations . Also again USE your ears not what it measured that’s my take on it. Yes it works and it works very well, At this given time frame as advertised with No foreseeable problems to speak of, other than a few minor installation variations or minor obstacles, Please have a wonderful week. Everyone hope all enjoyed the holiday if you partake ………
