A few months back there was an issue of video stutter with files with some (not all) Dolby TrueHD soundtracks (both discrete or object oriented).

This was found to be due to overly dense keyframes in some non-compliant THD streams and was fixed with the setting:

    Settings/Audio/Pass-through compatible mode

(There is also a setting for sync correction to THD soundtracks there)

I've asked numerous times for this setting to at least have some explanatory text, because as it stands, no-one would have a clue what it does if they don't know the history.

I also asked for it to be switched on by default. In fact I don't really see why it should be able to be switched off at all!

However, this has not been done so I thought an explanation here might help.

So if you're having stutter issues, this may be the cause.

    Bottom line, switch this on.

Thanks for the information. However, I can't find the setting I need to change in the menus.
    I'm using the French version.
More details or a screenshot would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I have this setting all the time and it doesn't help. Only LLDV has helped me.

Same here - but I still get some stutter on LLDV.

This setting has nothing to do with DV, as stated in the first post it's to compensate for non compliant THD soundtracks.

I know - just making point that DV stutter is reduced but not eradicated using LLDV.

I know, but it just muddies the waters in this thread and I've already stated that there is a fix in the next release.

I don't know this for sure, but I'm willing to bet that there are a lot of people out there who assume they're suffering from the DV stutter when in fact they have Compatibility Mode switched off and the issue they have is due to THD keyframes - that's why I started this thread since I've spoken to a lot of people recently with exactly this problem and switching on Compatibility Mode has sorted it.

As I said, you & I remember this as an issue from way back, but a lot of newcomers since then won't have a clue what this function does so this thread is mainly aimed at them.

I like your wallpaper / background. The brushed anodised metal look is very subtle and classy. Can you share it please?

    Hi,

I haven't done much testing lately, probably because I got lucky when we started talking about these video stutter issues
(which we thought were mainly related to DV and TV with the LED TV setting) :

Since my TV only supports LLDV, and my first tests (just after the v1.2.0.5 update went live)
didn't reveal any stutter issues, I thought I wasn't affected by the problem.

However, after re-running a few tests earlier this week, I just noticed (unfortunately) the problem :

    - Only one micro video stutter (barely visible) on "Fast & Furious X" in UHD remux.

    - But there's slight video stutter (almost every 5-10 minutes) throughout "Le Comte de Monte Cristo" in UHD remux.

I even seem to have noticed the issue at one point (subtle but still present) with an HDR10 title (so not DV).
And I'm sure that if I continue my tests, I'll find other films with this kind of issue (whether DV or not...
even if the problem seems more pronounced with DV titles).
This proves that the problem isn't solely due to the LED TV setting (my UHD8000 -> Sony ZG9 playback is only LLDV).

So I'm going to test this audio setting and see if it improves (or eliminates ?) the problem.

So, while waiting for the next firmware update and its fixes, this trick seems to work for me :

    - "Le Comte de Monte Cristo" -> no more video stutter
    - "Gladiator II" watched tonight -> no detectable video stutter

To be confirmed during my next movie viewings, but in any case, thanks @Markswift2003 for the info !

I didn't have any stuttering issue before I decided to upgrade to the latest official firmware last week (I used the version 1.1.70 for few months). Since then, I've noticed it a few times on some DV files (I haven’t notice this issue with HDR10 yet). By enabling the recommended feature above, the problem seems to be solved.

I hope that the next firmware will fix it soon and that it will include a functional version of HT.

Thank you, Mark! This fixed the audio drop outs I previously reported for Avatar 2 and Raya and the Last Dragon.

Is there any trade-off when enabling this setting? Is there any downside?
