I've seen a You Tube video by Audio Architects about ripping SACDs to a PC, involves uploading some code on a USB stick to the player which takes over from the normal firmware, so hacking the device essentially. Maybe this might be helpful for you.
SACDs are still released. My latest is 'Pink Floyd Animals 2018 remix'. (released in 2022) The oppo was a BR-player that could rip them. I think the eversolo does not come with a CD player function for nothing. But have not checked it. Don't know if there is a SACD compatible usb CD/BR player. I found mine all on the good old i.net
To my knowledge there are no USB SACD players. It's a matter of copy protection. Until some years ago it was only analogue output, lately it seems to work with HDMI too
just checked my order and the status changed from "BACKORDERED" to "SHIPPABLE" Music Direct product page still shows "pre-order" and "not in stock" so who knows
Sony didn't kill anything. Multichannel SACDs are still being sold to this day. Certainly not as many as there once were but there are still are multichannel SACDs being released. I don't rip my SACDs with a PlayStation but from what I've read people are still ripping SACDs with them. I would suggest doing a Google search on "how to rip SACDs". There's plenty of information out there on the process and the many players that can be used. I rip all my SACDs with an Oppo 103 and the process is very straight forward and simple once one gets the hang of it.
Random comment -- shouldn't there be a T8 category in the main topics menu, not inside the A6 topic ?
I would like to hear for what reason the T8 is purchased and how it is deployed. The product has top notch digital outputs. These will by my knowledge only benefit external DAC's without XMOS re-clocking using their internal (top quality) crystals. This is the case for sure with some old(er) DAC's which by itself may be top class in all other aspecsts. These may indeed get a real boost regarding sound quality via the T8 but I frankly don't see any other application justifying the price above using a simple A6. Might consider the DAC Z10 being used in combination with my base level DMP A6 gen-1 which for sure should boost the sound quality to new highs. If I still will be able to hear it?
In my case, I come from an Eversolo DMP-A8 (w/LHY LPS) that I have connected I2s into a LAiV Harmony DAC .. I2s clock configured to use the A8 clock, and LAiV phase set to Positive. Reasons for me to switch to the T8: - Recuperate money invested in the DMP-A8 as I no longer use its DAC / PREAMP section - Smaller footprint of the T8 versus the A8, allowing me to place the T8 on top of the Niimbus rather than having the A8 placed underneath. - Improve audio quality (to the degree that this holds true with the T8 compared to the A8)
@WDitters Yes the A8 has the same Accusilicon Crystal but that is used only for its internal DAC. DAC Digital Outputs are clocked by the motherboard crystal. The T8 uses it for the motherboard hence all digital outputs benefit here. You should be able to hear the difference, please share the result with us too. I see the LAiV Harmony DAC uses a Crystek Crystal which indeed does not match the other components used. It is just average good. So I understand why you prefer clocking it from the source.
They may still be released but audio equipment with 5.1 analog output are history. I used to have an Oppo UDP-203 that had the 5.1 analog output and ended up selling it since the value shot up after the company went out of business. I am now using an older Marantz DVD player with 5.1 analog output and have a NOS Yamaha when the Marantz can no longer read the 5.1 DSD layer. I’ve tried listening to them with HDMI and COAX out and found I like the analog 5.1 DSD output better. If the only way I could listen is with digital connection, I’d sell all them. Not many AVR have analog input anymore either. I have a McIntosh MX-170 that has the analog input and use the analog input for playing my few SACDs.
I bought the A8 for its ability to stream Apple Music natively as the HiFi Rose RS130 was a disappointment. I used it as a streaming transport at first then tried the DAC with balanced outputs. I loved it and decided to purchase an A10 before a price increase. I then bought the T8 since I have a DAC in my preamp with XLR input. The A10 sounds great so I put that in my bedroom system since I had the room in my rack. I put the A8 in my main theater system since that would fit and the A10 was too big. I have the T8 on my 2 channel system now. I had an A6 Gen 2 in my bedroom that I’m going to sell. Best of all I’m rid of HiFi Rose and BlueSound.
That would be incorrect as the Magnetar UDP900 has a 5/7.1 analog output. I use HDMI for multichannel audio as it enables me to use Dirac room correction. I directly compared 5.1 analog with HDMI and much preferred HDMI with Dirac. I sold my 205 but held onto my 203. Then I picked up a used 203 for $600 to have a spare.
Thanks for sharing the info about the Magnetar UDP900. I had not heard of this one before so it's good to know for the future. I haven't played my SACDs in a long time but did listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and forgot how good it sounds in 5.1. I have a spare Yahama DVD player that plays SACD in case my Marantz SACD laser dies on me. Had a Sony 5 disc changer where the SACD laser burned out after 8 years. It would play CD but not SACD.
I agree, I'm waiting to see the reviews. I have a Holo Spring 3 DAC, and for now, I have an Auralic G1 Aries transport. The price of the T8 is attractive, it's well built with good components and a mature interface, and it's Roon Ready (which I use). The Holo has an interesting sound and is better with I2S. I'm waiting to see what the feedback is like. It could replace the older Auralic design, which doesn't have I2S. I have a Neo Alpha, which is an audio player with a DAC. There's no reason why it shouldn't be good as a transport, given Eversolo's expertise. I think it will be a neutral, transparent and silent transport.
Saw on another forum last night that Auralic is ceasing operations immediately due to a drop in sales. The article mentioned it being related to the tariff war and competition from less expensive streamers. Sad to see another high end company go away. I almost bought a G2.2 as it looked to be a nice piece of kit. Retirement is then a year away for me so I bought the T8 and have no regrets. I also own an A8 and A10 and love those as well. Both those are used as streaming DACs. Both Eversolo and HiFi Rose were mentioned as market disrupters that drove the competition. I owned a HiFi Rose transport for 6 months. I went with Eversolo as the app is superior and their products are reasonably priced and sound great to me.
I had a Rose (I confirm that the app is not as good as Eversolo) before switching to a DMP A6, then to a separate DAC. Until now, Eversolo only made integrated devices (player, DAC and preamp), which is why I bought the Auralic second-hand. The Aries G2 is the closest equivalent to the T8, but it's horribly expensive, given the I2S connection, clocks, etc. I'll probably buy a T8. My dealer will advise me on the quality of this device as a transport. So I agree with you.
