https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...r-boutique-r2r-with-distortion-factory.26222/ Hello, Regarding distortion, there has been some discussion about the Rockna Wavedream. Subjectively, it is considered very transparent, detailed and precise for an R2R, and is a source of debate between objectivists and subjectivists. See the GoldenSound measurements cited in the forum. SINAD (THD+N) of 80, they use 90dB close to CD and average, the Holo are around 115dB. Some critics suggest that this distortion could contribute to the feeling of depth and space (a feeling of great airiness and holography). It has been criticised in linearity tests that at low volume, the Rockna has a sawtooth behaviour, whereas the Holo is more linear, using a secondary R2R ladder to compensate in real time for errors in the main ladder.
Yes hello Weather 44210, that is all very interesting seriously, but may I ask you a question and actuality have you actually heard these effects and differences in evaluation and listening yourself with your own two ears personally speaking, please I am not being condescending. I am just extremely curious if you do feel like posting back please let me know as I am quite interested, not what ASR, as believed, they discovered What was your overall findings and conclusion and conjunction to theirs in all honesty I am not insinuating that you would not be, but please go forth, I make my factual decisions and findings on what I can hear not so much on what can be measured, I believe, you are quite educated enough to be very aware that equipment that has measured unbelievably excellent was some of the worst sounding equipment I have ever witnessed or heard personally, in which also stands true for the exact opposite, have you, yourself observed or heard any of these Sonic deviations in overall distortion ? In ANY questionable findings , again Not of sonic signature, characteristics of said unit , but without doubt any questionable and detectable human hearing in detectable conditions in distortion factor only if any, Not what is being opinionated on measurements & equipment like you stated subjectively speaking in which can leave a vast array of other factors always left open to question this is why I trust my ears. There is no subjective speculation or opinion of only being able to what I can actually and factually hear. Quoting the engineering department at James B Lansing as one gentleman stated two years in a brain are always better than any measuring equipment or devices.. not stating or insinuating in any way, that measurements are not important they are indeed very imperative and quite useful within their proper perspective just like anything else, Thank you, please have a wonderful day. Enjoy
Hi Biamp, I haven't had the opportunity to try Rockna, but they have an entry-level model, although they don't really have one, the Wavelight (€5,000), which has a very analogue sound (similar to the Holo Spring, which costs €3,000), with a warm, rich tone and a background that is not as dark as the Holo, with fewer micro details. The Holo tends towards a transparent, detailed, natural and realistic sound, which may be perceived as less warm and rounded than the Rockna. The Wavedream mentioned in the ASR forum is more transparent, with surgical precision without being aggressive, more depth and airiness, and superior micro dynamics. Compared to the Holo May, Holo's top-of-the-range model, the Wavedream has an authoritative and physical sound, more width and rhythm. According to feedback, the May has absolute transparency with a calm and fluid presentation and the best technical specifications on the market for an R2R DAC. In short, it's the Spring style with more perfection. They say that a Spring is 90% of the May. The most analogue with a lot of body and substance is the Wavelight with a very organic sound, almost a touch of vinyl. Preferring transparency, detail and layering of sound planes, it's for these reasons that I chose the Holo.
Hello again , thank you for the most interesting and very intelligent post or reply, I do not currently own or use either however, one of my AUDIO buddies here has been switching back-and-forth to the R to R DAC configurations for quite some time now, just speaking in my personal opinion you are correct and personally speaking. I believe you made a wonderful choice again thank you for the most interesting reply. Best of luck please have a wonderful day. It appears or sounds to be. You have quite an interesting audio system
Hello Keith, I see that perhaps you did not heed my advice, I had tried to warn you several times to stop riding that ASR COW , not only that be sensible you could’ve got seriously injured, making a jump like that especially with ASR at the helm , Please exercise, extreme caution, the forum would collapse without you, Anyway when you get off the ASR COW, please have a wonderful day over there in the pasture ASR, = asinine, stupid , ridiculous… ✅
Here we go again... At least, let's stop mentioning the device's price when comparing, uh? It is a matter of fact that high-price IS NOT synonym of high-quality... sometimes it can be, most of the times it is not, however.
Hi , you know if you read the above post you would absolutely be able to see that I have commented precisely and exactly of what you have just stated even though I know you very much dislike reading them from myself , every once in a while, there’s a bit of information in there that had been stated and agreed upon numerous times, and no, it’s not here we go again. It’s here. We are again. Do not comment or pass opinion personal or otherwise the ASR police will apprehend you immediately, sssshhhh they’re always watching but where the problem lies one way or the other, they always have to get involved in it and take it or turn a situation into something that absolutely was not. I don’t know some people will just dive into a pool if there’s water in it or not, what a place, then have the audacity to pass criticism upon whoever or whoever is convenient at that time, nice huh have a great day everyone enjoy It’s all good …..
@Biamp300B you are almost right, as always. You can say I am repeating the same, time after time. But it is also true that every newbee here (and not only them...) keeps repeating / mentioning the same, too... despite sometimes we actually give true, compassionate advice. Have a great day you too.
Well let me try your philosophy just to give someone the benefit of the doubt, I will have to change that not that I agree or fully agree it’s always I somewhat agree, as far as giving or offering, compassionate advice maybe I’m missing something here. Perhaps it may even be old age. I will give the benefit of the doubt again I somewhat agree, but I can never actually recall to the best of my knowledge complete compassionate advice. Can someone please point me in the proper or correct direction so I may view this thank you. I appreciate please enjoy your day everyone along with your music if we ever get back to it respectfully speaking
@Biamp300B next time I come up with one I'll mention you in the comment, so we can start keeping track of them.
Now there you go that would be nice, at least I would actually get to see one an actuality, however I would have to state You are almost right, or the other famous line, you are somewhat right truthful and compassionate, where ? it was just beyond my understanding where these post or comments actually lie, no one here, including me, could seem to find any. yes this may be somewhat helpful, but you are almost right, thank you, Nutul , what a wonderful idea, Yes You are almost right, actually oh sorry please have a wonderful day or evening. Try to enjoy some music. You know, I believe what’s happening here is just let the professionals Speak and moderate from here that would be best, I believe I’m almost right This absolutely appears to be the situation anyway, Yes, let nature take its course. I somewhat agree.
Unfortunately, there are also those who use autosuggestions to avoid hearing the obvious... which they would hear if they weren't perceptually blocked by the possibility of hearing differences not due to suggestion. Then there are the deaf, but that's another story.
Funny discussion, people who want to measure everything and being objective, versus people who are subjective and talk about their pleasure! When listening to Music it is first pleasure…whether a dac mesures better than another who cares. It could be a comparaison with a women that you love. Did you choose her according her measurement? Like for a miss universe election? Or was it according something you cannot reallly define totaly subjective? well when I listen to my T8 combined with my holo audio dac spring3 kte with my nice usb cable to the music, I get chills!!!! more chills than with my RME dac and the Auralic this is my measurement! And I know that I have the best in the wold stereo system compares to the one next door, but may be it is like with my loved wife…and it is totaly subjective and don’t want my wife to be measured !!! (And may be I will divorce, if I met someone else…like in audiophilic passion….)
I agree with you @Enrok! Your enjoyment means more than the measurements. I had a Parasound JC5 amplifier that was 600 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It brought me no joy as it was bass heavy and somewhat muffled sounding. I replaced it with a Moon 860A V2 that's 450 watts into 4 ohms and it sounds very transparent, smooth, and sends shivers down my spine. Who cares about the numbers? Same with my Eversolo T8 and Z10 streamer and DAC. Very happy with my purchase. Glad to hear that you like your Eversolo better than your Auralic. I almost bought an Auralic N20 and it was just too expensive. I'm a former owner of a Rose RS-130 and that was just pure misery with the app and Apple Music implementation. Happy listening!
Another b-u-l-l-s-h-i-t assertion. Serious designer only focus on "eradicating audible distortion". Huh. Watch this video to learn from a serious pro audio equipment designer explain how to design for specific type of distortion. https://www.facebook.com/WOLFFAUDIO...nd-warm-wolffaudio-proaudio/1119324690277004/ Type of transformer core. Mixture of core material (steel / nickel blend). If the above is done in the pro audio world, what makes you think that HiFi reproduction product designers are "serious designers" only if they do what you say. Bah. And just in case you lack the knowledge that once the acoustic sound hits the microphone, the capture is already distorted. That is why there are so many types of microphones, different technologies, different pickup patterns. Audio engineers spend time to choose the "right" microphone for the sound they are trying to capture/use-case. You don't see studios widely using measurement microphones for recording do you? In the same vein, audio enthusiast should choose the "right" equipment for sound reproduction that meets their expectations.
Hey Keith, you go watch it , for us enjoy yourself. And Don’t forget the popcorn, , I would assume or believe it is safe to say that you’ll be taking ASR along with you know that popcorn‘s got to be checked for distortion and it’s simply must taste transparent. Please let me know immediately of your findings extremely imperative thank you. Enjoy the movie …. I anxiously await your findings, as usual , that’s kind of nice. They must’ve let you out for the weekend again ? By the way, grab a pencil for your notebook. They’ve been using those materials in transformers, preferably in tube amplifiers for the last 50 ++ years conservatively speaking., Now, of course, you can get a hold of tango or Tamara, Sun. AUDIO note ,ect And get a real transformer at a real world, price old school old news, Japan still makes some of the best transformers ever made still do i’m looking at a pair now ,, A Nickel blend , try a solid silver core winding. , A blend come on , really ? Hashimoto did that 80 years ago. I hope you’re not drinking again. ? So What’s the big deal here ? On microphones Manley and Neumann , using DBX YES its still alive and well and in use today.
