Hi - I’m new to this - hope someone can help Just installed a DMP 6 Master Edition I’m trying to move iTunes files over from my HP PC Laptop I’ve installed and formatted a SSD card but when I go into windows file explorer after connecting the laptop via the USB b connection it doesn’t recognise the SSD card I thought it would be a simple drag and drop process so I’m obviously doing something wrong? The other thing I’ve noticed is that the on line manual mentions a ‘transfer’ icon on the screen but it’s not present on my DMP 6 unit - any reason why? thanks in advance for any help J
Hi Joss. When you installed the SSD in your DMP-A6 did the unit recognise the SSD? Also did you format the installed SSD with the DMP-A6 to either NTFS or ex-FAT from the menu? To verify your DMP-A6 can actually recognise your SSD tap on the Files icon on the main screen and verify the drive actually appear there on the left side of the screen. The SSD will appear as the same name you gave it when you formatted the drive using the DMP-A6 format facility.
Hi Alan Yes when I installed the SSD it recognised the card and allowed me to format it Regarding NTFS OR EX -FAT - I’m not 100% sure but think it was NTFS The DMP 6seems to be recognising the SSD which is a 1TB Crucial P310 I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the screen and one from the app on my iPad Thanks for your help Joss
Hi Joss, Well that all looks normal to me. From the HOME screen tap on the Settings icon. Tap on the General icon. Check to see if the option (in orange) next to the USB-OTG port says PC file transfer. If it says External storage device, tap on the option to see the next screen which will give you the opportunity to change it so there is a tick symbol against PC file transfer. Tap the General icon to confirm the USB-OTG port is now in PC file Transfer mode. Connect a USB cable to the OTG (top USB port) on the back of your DMP-A6 to a USB port on your PC. Open File Manager on your PC. Click on This PC. You should see your DMP-A6 listed below. It will also appear as an icon under Devices and drives as DMP-A6. Click on DMP-A6 and you should see at least two folders - Internal shared storage and (in your case) New volume (as you've named your 1TB SSD as this device). Click on New volume and you will see several sub-directories (folders) appear. You will want to store your music in the Music folder. Using File manager, locate the music folders and files on your PC you want transfer to the 1TB SSD installed in your DMP-A6. You have two options - Select, copy then paste them into the Music folder on your DMP-A6 or simply drag and drop them into the Music folder on your DMP-A6. Just be mindful this could take a while to complete depending on how many folders and files you have to transfer. HINT: To ensure your album artwork associated with each album is displayed ensure you have the picture file (JPG. or PNG image) in the same folder as each album. Finally, once all your music has been copied across to your DMP-A6 you will need to perform a scan on the library so the music search function works. This will only function correctly if all the tracks have metatags.
Hi Alan Thanks for this - I think I know what I’ve been doing wrong now ! I’ve been using the USB-B input on the DMP 6 - looking at the latest version of the manual on page 7 and 27 think I’ve interpreted it incorrectly. I’ve ordered a USB 3 lead today and hopefully when I get it I’ll be sorted. I wish they would put version numbers on the on line manual as I printed out an old version initially that probably confused me more. Again many thanks and I’ll let you know if I’m sorted one I get the new lead. Thanks Joss
Hi Alan got the new USB lead and followed your guidance and I’m a happy chap as the DMP 6 is now visible on my PC - so can now start to transfer/ copy files across from I tunes. Shame about the artwork as I don’t think the files are associated- but I’ll be happy if I can copy the music across ok many thanks for your help Joss
iTunes has been a mess for years, when it has come to transfer the tracks to other devices / systems... hope you get there with as little pain as possible.
Yes I agree- I’ve transferred the files ok and it’s playing nicely Understand what you mean re iTunes as the formatting re album names and categories is inaccurate on some albums. I also assume that - as Alan said on previous post - that the album artwork won’t work unless it’s linked to each file ? I was hoping just pulling the album artwork file across night work but maybe not ☹️ Finally there’s a piece of blue gummy plastic stuff in the box about one inch by 3 inches with a clear plastic sticker on each side - any idea what it is ? thanks Joss
1. the gummy thing is a thermal pad, meant to be sticked at an NVMe drive, so that it can make contact with the port cover and help dissipating heat. 2. AFAIK, one art in the folder containing the tracks would suffice for all those tracks showing the same art (meant to be tracks of one album > one album-art) If you refer to albums made with separate art per each track, such as Peter Gabriel's I/O, or Nine Inch Nails' The Slip then I cannot think how that could be achieved, if not having the art embedded in each track file; provided the Eversolo device is actually extracting such picture and showing it.
Hi Joss, Happy to help out. That's what this forum is all about. Getting to know the ins and outs of a new product can be a bit daunting if not at times frustrating for someone just getting familiar with it. It can be a steep learning curve (been there, done that, got the leather medal - LOL) but well worth it in the end. Good to read you're on the way to copying your music across to your SSD. The album cover artwork image need only be in the same folder as the tracks of the album. Your DMP-A6 will automatically display the image when you are playing or searching for an album. I would recommend images of 600 x 600 up to 800x 800 pixels in size for optimum display on the screen of your DMP-A6 or on another device like a smartphone or tablet. Anything smaller will appear a bit blurry and anything bigger a waste of storage space. The DMP-A6 recognises and can display JPG and PNG image files. I get my album cover artwork from a number of sources - https://albumartexchange.com/ My personal favourite and IMHO a very good source of high-quality album artwork. It's free to join. You have to login otherwise there will be a watermark on the downloaded images. Has a search facility to make finding images easier. Google search - literally millions of images on the internet of various quality from excellent to "why did I bother?". Scan in your own CD covers if you can't find good images elsewhere. I've had to do this for some of my somewhat more obscure titles that I couldn't find cover artwork elsewhere. Meta tagging programs like MP3tag will often find matching album cover artwork for you as do some CD ripping programs. You can add the album cover artwork after you have copied across your music if you didn't do it at the time. However, you will probably need to re-scan your library again to link them. Yes, it is possible to have different images displayed for individual tracks of an album. It does however mean linking each image to the metatags of each track individually using a tagging utility like MP3tag. Yes, it can be done but I wouldn't recommend it as it will rapidly start consuming your available storage space on your SSD. Seeing you only have 1TB of storage you may find you could eventually regret that decision as the available free space diminishes. However, the choice is a personal one of course based on your own wants and needs. As for the "blue gummy plastic stuff". As @Nutul explained, it's a self-adhesive thermal pad designed to assist in extracting heat from the SSD card into the case of the DMP-A6. Is it necessary to install it? No, not really. SSD cards only tend to get warm when you are writing a lot of data to the drive over a prolonged period of time in one go. They generally run quite cool when just reading which is what your DMP-A6 will be doing after you've written the music and associated file to your SSD. I've had a Crucial P3 4TB SSD installed in my DMP-A6 for well over two years and it hasn't even got warm with a complete re-write of nearly 4TB of data.
