Hello, I'm trying out the DMP-A8 and for the moment I've an issue with the Loudness function.

In the manual it's described as a function that can be set in 4 different levels with different strength.

But I don't have this option. When I'm in the DSP menu, I can only thick loudness on/off and the shown loudness curves are grey, not yellow like in the manual and I can't click on them to choose anything.

And yes, ofc I'm using digital in (Internal Player), analog out over XLR and my listening levels are below -15db. More like around -33 to -42 db.

I also tried trough the developer mode to install an older Firmware and started with 1.3.20 and went all trough 1.3.30, 1.4.01, 1.4.32, 1.4.76, 1.5.10, 1.5.30, 1.5.46, 1.5.62, 1.5.75 and 1.6.15.

Does anybody has/had this issue and was able to solve it?

Besides that I really like the player :)

Hi I had a few extra minutes, my A8 had always operated as shown below, I actually don’t partake in these features personally speaking naturally this is also somewhat questionable to me I believe it is operating correctly or in accordance to the following from my past experiences of 2.5 + years , I have never been in view of any adjustability of loudness levels or control simply on or off only ⬇️⬇️ Best of luck hope this helps some :)

    * ADD ON/ in speaking to a few folks more knowledgeable than myself on this issue or topic, I have been told this a feature that was introduced but never actually implemented or fully developed, Due to DSP functionality with overall adjustment, which would includes a very flexible level output control, along with many other usable features that are available within the framework of the DSP Config system settings, along with other possible conflicting firmware problems, I believe this to be true, perhaps correct within This units configuration and extraordinary amount of user abilities and adjustments, within my personal opinion, interesting…

Thank you for your response. And yes, I have the variable output activated, as I installed it as a preamplifier directly connected over XLR to my poweramp.

It's a bit sad, as I bought the device because of this function, it's advertised in the manual and now when I want to use it, I can't because it's not available.
I have here also 2 other devices with a working loudness function (RME Adi-2 DAC FS & Onkyo P-80) and when I compare the loudness of this 2 devices with the one from the Eversolo,
the difference is really sort of night and day. So for me it's clear, that this toggle with on/off is not working properly as a proper loudness like it is advertised.

So I'm really disappointed from this point.
Also my mail to the support about this went out on the 18 September and I still have no answer.

I have to admit, that I was really exited about the A8 and I really like the look of it with the nice housing and the nice screen, but that's it.
It feels a bit, like I bought a 100 Euro streamer from Ali and now I'm left in the dust.

Hi Snickers01, I can certainly understand you’re dissatisfaction with your opinions of the A8, At times I certainly feel disappointed myself, within firmware versions, However it absolutely a very good Full streamer unit in a definite comparative nature just speaking for myself when I’m actually in view of most of the competition out there as of today it’s still remains very relevant within its other overall usefulness within honest opinion, and looking at another unit from another manufacture that is very comparative in nature,

I do use Apple Music and perhaps a few other apps at times , within, looking at a very competitive unit, of course depending again of your wants, needs , concerns, desires, etc. most competitors units would leave me having to use AirPlay for streaming Apple Music over to the init itself or hook up my way of USB connection, this is just one of many examples again in opinion the DMP A8 without doubt, absolutely offers a vast amount of other amenities that most, or if not all of the competitors do not offer or have the capability within doing or executing , for example in cost ratio as to my personal wants and needs, the DAC in the A8 sounds very good in comparison to most of the 4499EXEQ chip setups in implementation of numerous Dacs I have currently heard in a standalone or dedicated DAC or in use incorporated within a streamer or other streaming devices, in particular operating system options I feel this Unit has much to offer over most of the current competition within the industry's current offerings as of today, in cost ratios

I personally incorporate and use many different devices and have found this unit always to be an asset and acting like a hub within sourcing most devices at times, although I am quite aware this was not the A8’s actual intent or purpose, again it’s all dependent upon where one stands or where his needs may lie proceeding throughout the future within its overall use and numerous abilities no far from the best there is no best. I’ve been doing this for quite a while again in personal belief. I believe it’s a Darn good unit and still quite relevant as of today , again in comparative nature I would say absolutely so however, the above statements again are just my own personal views thoughts and opinions other than a few minor gremlins. It has worked out very well in a little a bit over the past 2 1/2 years, again I do understand your concerns, as I do not partake within some of these functions, I would imagine you may have a much greater appreciation for such a feature and ability than myself. Totally understandable, sorry, but to me only somewhat of a minor difference or flaw personally speaking, I also used a Hi fi Rose before the A8, after a friends lend and full demonstration , I definitely decided to move the HIFI Rose along after a very long evaluation I could not condone keeping it, I do retain a few other devices no problems, but I would certainly think twice before partying with my A8 within this particular time. That’s just me, However the very best of luck to you,

Again have a wonderful weekend, :)

Thank you very much for your response and wished :)

And yes, I fully agree with you, as the A8 as a unit itself is a great piece of tech. If I wouldn't believe that, I wouldn't bought it.
And I also see in your use-case, the unit makes completely sense. It all depends what preferences a person has and which points/function are more or less important.
If I would use Apple Music instead of Tidal, I think there would be close to none alternative to enjoy my Music lossless.
But the good side of Tidal is, that the Connect function is working on nearly all streaming capable devices. So that allows me to focus a bit more on the other functions that I need besides that one.
And as I'm living in a apartment with neighbors, for me the loudness is a mandatory points, which restricts the available devices for me, like the Apple Music for you ;-)

It's really hard nowadays to find a device with a proper loudness. I had first the RME + Bluesound Node, but wished to have an easier central one-box solution for the preamp/DAC/streamer for my living room.
So for me that means the Onkyo will stay. I've just wished, that the A8 would work and sound as expected, as I really like to have a screen with the what's playing on it.

i absolutely agree, your particular situation makes perfect sense, quite fortunately very fortunately I do not have the Neighbor problem, big differences which is only natural one to be expected. I did for a short period of time use other streaming services, but personally found The A/M service to totally suffice at least for my needs or expectations. From a sonically defined perspective, Yes level control does have its advantages and disadvantages, I’m using 4 for the mains plus 2 for subs All most an impossibility to truly level or balance out as source material there varies greatly along with some sources within themselves, plus time sequencing problems, however, not important here within particular situation conversation, the A8’s abilities in flexibility does show some improvement in audio sonic operations specifically to some degree Some quite useful features Due to the units adjustment abilities,

I’m somewhat lucky as I can stay put sitting down and remotely control each individual level this is a 2 channel system only, yes old school, however I most definitely condone your decision in point of operational overview and what may work or perform best in a given particular situation as no tour, the same naturally,

However, I do believe there are some other actions you may be able to implement or put forth within trying rectify not so much your problem, but you’re overall once needs and liking within your particular situation But I don’t believe it will be a set it and forget it routine Or run-of-the-mill given situation, yes, it is an absolute letdown when something is promised to perform or operate within a given situation of need or use and suddenly becomes useless or unavailable. I absolutely agree 100% ,

somewhat of an interesting situation most certain you will figure it out in the long run, however, your comment on the A8 absolutely I’ve had a lot of equipment come and go plus lucky enough to still have a few buddies around with different models or devices, and some with different abilities within their overall usefulness subjectively speaking everything is trial and error,

The A8 always continues to come through as a good overall sounding unit, yes that absolutely has its shortcomings Like most units or devices within High End Audio some very surprisingly, naturally, always within an unforeseen expectations or other areas within over playback in Many numerous instances, what works absolutely wonderful and one listener’s house not so much in another also very dependent system to system, everything matters. But it absolutely appears you basically, have it figured out excellent, also as you have stated some very interesting posts or replies in regards to this unique and unfortunate situation,

Again very best of luck within the forseable future ;-)
    Have a great weekend :)
