DMP-A6 Sampling rate output

    Still learning how to use some of the basic function. Wonder if I am able output sampling rate beyond 192khz. Can A6 able to upsample to higher sampling rate? Just curious.

    Using A6 as source and output to external dac. I see A6 detected my dac allow max rate up to 768khz, but I don't see any output rate option beyond 192khz.

    You have to set the sample rate to "original sampling rate". You have hooked up "gapeless playback with 192 Khz fixed". Then no higher output rate will appear!

    You have to feed your DAC via USB from the Eversolo. SPDIF are limited to 192 Khz.

    I also use the Eversolo for transport only to my RME ADI 2 FS and with this settings all resolutions will be displayed properly. With the RME one can make a bit-test to see if the transmission is bit perfect. And yes it is.

    Upsampling on the A6 is limited to 192 kHz max. However if you are streaming files with native high sampling rates, then the A6 should transmit them assuming you specify original sampling rate. The SPDIF outputs are intrinsically limited to 192 kHz, USB or HDMI allow higher rates.

    Thank you. Basically, the sampling rate is depending on the source file. All my rip file is 44.1khz and using USB connect to my dac. A6 do not have upsamplimg feature while playing file.
    I've been using Auralic and their source/app would allow to upsample while I change the sampling rate. I guess I misinterpreted what A6 intend to do for the rate output page.

    Repeat: It supports up-sampling up to max 192 kHz.

    A6 does upsample if you turn it on, ensure EOS is Off to permit this I.e. Eversolo Original Sampling Rate Audio Engine

    Don’t know for the eversolo but normally non upsampling is more relaxed playing. The upsampling DACs I had were more nervous than non upsampling (just my experience).

    Reviving an old post here. I'm curious about this upsampling. I see posts from some setting the outputs sample rate to 768khz and saying they are upsampling, yet I've seen no documentation from Eversolo or otherwise that this actually accomplishes anything. I think specifically I saw an instance where someone was streaming Radio Paradise FLAC 16bit/44.1khz and it showed 768khz output on the display. Doesn't seem reasonable to me that this is accomplishing anything, especially with a streaming radio stream that has already gone through other processing.

    I think upsampling can benefit the overall sound but only in that filtering at the DAC end can be more relaxed I.e. less steep filter slopes further away from audible band lead to less distortions. No new information is created of course, that was set by the original sampling rate. Delta sigma DACs are always intrinsically upsampling anyway further muddying the waters.

    When we talk about upsampling it’s meant like:

    samplerate x 2 / x4 / x8 (power of 2)
    i.e. 44,1 kHz -> 88,2 kHz -> 176,4 kHz -> 352,8 kHz -> 705,6 kHz

    and resampling would be
    i.e. 44,1 kHz -> 96 kHz -> 192 -> 384 khz -> 768 khz

    Is this correct ?

    NOPE:
    The second case should start with 48
    You can do it, of course, but it introduces more aliasing than needed, and it is more CPU-hungry

    All the rest is ok.

    The debate of whether upsampling or resampling actually accomplishes any sonic improvement has been debated for decades. IME and IMHO to retain the original sampling rate, upsample or resample is a matter of personal preference and depends on the DAC.
    Upsampling has been a common practice since the emergence of CD players back in the early 1980s where some manufacturers e.g. Marantz and Philips had players that commonly employed upsampling, whereas at about the same era Sony didn't. From a technical perspective, upsampling made perfect sense at the time in so much as it greatly simplified the low pass filter design for the output of the DAC chip to remove the sampling frequency. Designing a brickwall filter with minimal phase distortion at the higher end of the passband in the analogue domain was somewhat more of an engineering challenge. All pretty well past history now.

    For some reason when outputting internal streaming via coax, I can’t get any rates above 44.1.

    Any clue what I’m doing wrong? I’ll be streaming a 192kbs track on Apple Music that plays at that sample rate through the internal DAC, but when I try to send it out spdif coax to an external dac it automatically downsamples.

    I’ve tried adjusting all the settings I can think of. Thoughts?

    I could not, but I thought it was an issue going at my dac as usb will output to 192kbs

    Coax spdif output above 44.1 kHz is certainly possible from internal player. Two settings that impinge on this : the EOS original sampling engine setting and the actual sampling rate setting itself, If you want upsampling, then EOS must be OFF. Now some streaming services may do their own thing regardless of these settings e.g. Radio Paradise often outputs at 192 kHz even though I have not set this, another example would be Spotify Connect which usually restricts itself to 44,1 kHz regardless of these settings. I don't use Apple Music so don't know what it will do. Local files always obey the sampling rate settings though.

    @Mjay71 Are you seeing the 44.1 output reported on the A6 or on the DAC?

    I ask as I saw the A6 reporting the incorrect sample rate over digital coax (although I think it was actually outputting the correct sample rate), and this bug was fixed in the latest beta firmware (1.2.44) 'Addressed occasional display issues with output sampling rates during optical output'.

    Hi Moog.

    I am seeing the 44.1 output on the A6.

    Unfortunately, the recent update has not fixed this bug on my unit, at least.

    I still have that issue for coax output to my Stellar Strata.

    Though USB reports upwards of 192 kbs, COAX only displays 44.1.
