I have been successfully using a NUC attached to my PC via CAT6 and using HDMI to my Yamaha receiver. I use JRiver Media and its app to control my listening sessions. I have had no problems listening to 5.1 channel music that was ripped as flac with this setup. I swapped out the NUC with the DMP-A6 and I cannot get 5.1 out of the receiver with it. The A6 shows that it is outputting 5.1, but the Yamaha is showing only 2 channel music playing. I searched this site and I believe others were having issues with this as well in the past, but I never came across a resolution to this problem. What an I missing? Added after trying my secondary receiver: On My Sherwood Newcastle - Multichannel works on this unit. Leads me to believe that Eversolo and Yamaha (RX-A3030) don't play well together. Is there a fix?
There's a whole thread dedicated to multichannel HDMI incompatibility of the DMP-A6 with some HDMI receivers connected via HDMI. Sorry I can't recall the exact thread but if I find it again I will post the link. If you haven't already tried it, you could check your HDMI settings on your DMP-A6 to confirm multichannel PCM output via HDMI which seems to be the least problematical. AFAIK the DMP-A6 relies on an EDID response from the receiver to let it know what the receiver's HDMI port is capable of handling and decoding. If there is no intelligible response or the rresponse is absent the DMP-A6 assumes only LPCM capability. To check your receiver's HDMI port audio capability in terms of it communicating EDID info to your DMP-A6 try the following - Ensure you have a HDMI connection between the two devices. Power on both units and select the appropriate HDMI input on your receiver. On your DMP-A6, from the main screen select SOURCES - Internal player. On the OUTPUT port settings, select HDMI. The settings window should appear. Depending on what is displayed will determine what the DMP-A6 assumes the receiver is capable of decoding. Now your Yamaha is (according to the info on page 162 of the owner's manual is capable of decoding lots of formats (see screen capture), however if it doesn't communicate this to the receiver the DMP-A6 will limit the output to (generally) LPCM and it may also limit the sampling rate. I had this issue with two Sony receivers (STR-DA5600ES and STR-DN1080).
Unfortunately, I ended up having to purchase another AVR. The screenshot from the DMP-A6 is with my Denon AVC connected to it, not any of the Sony AVRs. If you see the same screen as mine did when my DMP-A6 is connected to my Denon AVC then then your Yamaha AVR should (in theory) playback MCH files as multichannel. The only thing I can suggest is possibly your settings on your DMP-A6 under Settings / Audio / HDMI Output are possibly incorrect. To get multichannel audio I suggest you set them the same as I have (see screenshot below). The Auto option allows the DMP-A6 to output either 2 channel or multichannel according to the file / format been played to the AVR. The only other setting which might be causing an issue is under Settings / Playback and scroll down until you see "Eversolo Original sampling-rate audio engine" and ensure it is set to ON.
Tried all of those unfortunately. Is the problem with these older AVRs or newer ones too? I'll probably go with a Denon X3800H or a Sony STR-AN1000
It appears that it's mostly the older AVRs that have the incompatibility issue. However, having said that if you going to audition a replacement AVR I can suggest the following - Take your DMP-A6 with you to the dealer (assuming they aren't already an eversolo dealer with a DMP-A6 in stock to connect it up and make sure it's compatible; or Buy only on the understanding you can return the AVR for a full refund if when you take it home and try it out you discover it is incompatible with your DMP-A6; or Buy online from a retailer that has a unconditional return policy which doesn't leave you out of pocket. i.e. gives you a full refund of the purchase price and free return shipping. When I purchased my Denon AVC-X3800H the dealer was happy with option 2. I can't honestly say I'm overly happy with my Denon AVC-X3800H. IMO the sound quality isn't particularly good even though I'm running it in pre-amp mode to external power amps for all channels. Also, even though it accepts DSD it doesn't decode DSD natively inside the receiver, rather it converts it to LPCM before it reaches the DACs even with Audessey bypassed. Mine has also developed an intermittent fault whereby it occasionally randomly changes inputs for no apparent reason. If I purchased a new AVR or AVC again I think I'd buy something that has better SQ and kick-arse room correction ability. This is because the EQ and PEQ in the DMP-A6 only works with PCM and not DSD. As I have several hundred SACD / DSD titles I'm at the mercy of Audessey and IMHO it's crap. If a Denon AVR is on your radar perhaps consider auditioning the new X3900H in lieu of the aging X3800H.
You would have been better of with a pre/pro from Marantz. No amps and dsd direct modes. Audyssey can be controlled to your liking with the 200 dollar multieq application.
I have ripped all of my SACD and Bluray to PCM so the DSD limitations are not an issue for me I am old and my hearing isn't as good as it was even 10 years ago and I can't hear the small differences as I used to. I'm not really happy to possibly spend more on a new AVR since I am happy with the Yamaha otherwise. The unfortunate thing is my Sherwood Newcastle R972 (secondary listening environment)plays just fine with the A6, but it sucks as a main unit because it is a nightmare with handshake issues when used in the TV watching arena . It has great Trinovv room optimizer and sounds fantastic. I may just have to start utilizing this area as my music room even though its in the basement and not as comfortable of a space. Also my wife was looking forward to having Spotify more easily accessible. I have support helping, so maybe there is still hope?
Possibly not. Marantz isn't the quality product it once was many decades ago, as is the case with many brands these days. Given the general mediocre SQ of the AVC-X3800H I'm a tad reluctant to spend any more money by purchasing a software upgrade that is locked to the serial number of the product and not transferable. Likewise with DIRAC Live.

Yes in personal opinion I always found that a dedicated listing room always works out best No question about that, some years ago, I had a pair of Magnepan 3A’s yes big tall and extremely inefficient to drive, wonderful loudspeakers placed in the correct Room naturally on the correct equipment. these particular homes had a small to medium size downstairs recreation room, or gathering room, etc., The contractors finish when built back in the 1970s is approximate dimensions as follows approximately 18.0 W x 16.5 L x8.o H, I would imagine one might say a nice average size room, and more than likely be most would be adequate for most folks , Well naturally not me, what could I do differently, there was a door at the rear of the room where one could gain entrance to the laundry room area. . Well I got to thinking that laundry room, in which is the same width and height, but in my personal opinion, I didn’t believe it needed to be approximately 9.0 feet in length, So I removed the prehung door and proceeded to remove rip out the existing wall that would’ve been in the end of the listening room specific in area. yes, absolutely a quite mess but well worth it in overall modification or renovation naturally for personal needs, so the moral of my story my dedicated listening room is now approximately a total of 23.0, feet an overall length , all other dimensions, remain the same with exception 16.5 W x 8.0 high naturally, an entirely different substantial sonic improvement . After a bit of grief naturally absolutely worth it, if possible do so your hearing abilities , maybe better than you think without changing your current equipment, I reinstalled the pre-hung existing door, and framed the new back wall using 2 x 6 x 8 ft wood studs , this gave me the ability to increase the inside depth this new wall, as I wanted to silence and soundproof the new wall, acoustically speaking, also trying to keep some of the continuous ongoing noise to a minimum, thankfully I have no neighbors or residence on either side of the property structure. this worked out extremely well as two of the existing walls were unusable, due to a fireplace being along one wall and an 8 foot sliding glass door within the Front of the room, so those two walls were useless to me in personal opinion, naturally not wanting to block the fireplace or sliding glass doors. so my options were somewhat limited in personal evaluation along with a few audio buddies, being honest in thought and opinion, however the laundry room is without question most definitely and absolutely at minimal space, yes absolutely some folks here were a little disheartened and very discontent, but I could not let them stand in the way of continuous, and ongoing progress. This most unfavorable idea of mine absolutely now a private wonderful room the best room in the house all year round also retains perfect temperature. While under just a little new construction this gave me the ability to run 2 dedicated electrical powerlines Both on 20 amp breakers, with dedicated grounding, most likely somewhat excessive, 1 dedicated line I believe would more than suffice. dedicated only AUDIO electrical lines without question absolutely DID make an overall substantial gain and operational performance, Go for it RaceDog, I had to wear earplugs for a few weeks while proceeding throughout the rest of the house, but it was well worth it. The storm always blows over eventually the sun does come back out. Oh well, no pain no gain absolutely worth it proceed at your own risk I suppose everyones circumstances absolutely differs, quite understandable in this situation within a truly dedicated listening room, please have a wonderful weekend enjoy,
That i fully understand. Those prices are huge! I'm pretty pleased with my setup. although its really meant for multichannel music. Stereo might not be as good as it could be. The AV7704 is not very high on the accuracy list. It's nowhere near the capabilities of my amps. But the AV20 price is just too damn high for me.
Marantz has gone absolutely insane with their prices. I only have 1 Marantz piece. I use a MM7055 for ATMOS in my bedroom. I don’t use the system enough to spend a lot for sound effects. I have a McIntosh MC205 for the main channels. I used to have the AV8805 and AV8802A processors and ended up replacing them with the McIntosh MX170 and MX123 (both 2021 models). While the MX123 uses the Marantz software and looks like a Marantz in the menus, it sounds nothing like a Marantz! LOL
I warmly recommend the Onkyo TX-RZ30. It's affordable, compatible, sounds great and the inclusion of Dirac live makes it an incredible bang for the buck.
Ripping SACD to PCM or DSD is IMO a huge waste of storage space. If you rip SACD to ISO you save an enormous amount of storage space and you have the added advantage of been able switch from the stereo to the multichannel tracks on the fly on the DMP-A6. I've got a 4TB SSD installed in my DMP-A6 and I'm running out of free space on it. If I had not ripped my SACDs to ISO files I would have run out of capacity ages ago. If your receiver has difficulty or can't decode DSD then select DoP as your output option. I use the free ISO2DSD program to rip my SACDs as ISO files.
I have 2 reasons why i left the iso files 1 my previous htpc did not have enough power the extract the 5.1 tracks on the fly 2 not all my devices do 5.1. So i save a lot of space on my dsd capable DAP My complete collection is on hdd so it's not that expensive
keeping the format as original as possible is always an advantage, of course. Mounting ISO images as if they were physical media requires CPU power, and this may be the bottleneck for some devices... I have ripped the (two or three?) SACDs in my collection to FLAC multichannel; I find ISO handling too much resource consuming. YMMV, of course.
Where can you see that? I have a X6800 and the only info i get is when i press the I think I get DSD until the DAC, or at least so it seems.
I have posed the question to Denon technical support and was told (hopefully not a lie) that the AVC-X3800H converts DSD to PCM prior to decoding by the DACs. As a matter if interest my AVC-X3800H displays a screen similar to the one you have shown. I can't comment about the other Denon AVRs as I only have the X3800H. I was pointed to this generic explanation - "Audyssey cannot directly manipulate or process DSD (Direct Stream Digital) audio signals. Because DSD is a highly specialized, 1-bit format, traditional DSP (Digital Signal Processing)—such as room equalization, speaker distance calculations, and crossover filtering—cannot be applied to it. How your AVR or processor handles this depends on the playback mode: With Audyssey Engaged: When you play a DSD file (like from an SACD) and have Audyssey turned on, the AV receiver internal DAC will automatically convert the DSD signal into PCM format (usually 24-bit/48kHz or 24-bit/192kHz depending on the receiver). Audyssey will then manipulate and calibrate this converted PCM signal before sending it to your speakers. Pure Direct / Direct Mode: If you want to listen to a DSD signal in its pure, native form without any conversion or Audyssey interference, you must set your Denon or Marantz receiver to Direct or Pure Direct mode. This bypasses all digital processing." Furthermore, on asking about bypassing Audyssey - "Yes, it will still convert DSD to PCM if you only change the Audyssey setting to "off" while keeping your standard sound mode active. Even with the Audyssey EQ filters disabled, the Denon AVC=X3800H continues to process the active bass management (crossovers), speaker levels, and the speaker distances discussed earlier. Because a home theatre receiver cannot apply those mathematical distance delays or crossovers to a native 1-bit DSD bitstream, the AVR’s digital signal processor (DSP) must convert the DSD signal into high-resolution Multi-Channel LPCM internally before decoding it to analogue. How to get Native (No PCM) DSD Decoding If your goal is a pure, un-converted DSD stream sent straight to the DAC, you must bypass the entire digital processing chip entirely. The Solution: Press the PURE button on your remote control and select either "Direct" or "Pure Direct" sound modes. The Indicator: When doing this correctly with an incoming SACD or DSD file, your front panel display will explicitly change to indicate "DSD Direct". The Ultimate Trade-Off When you trigger Direct / Pure Direct mode for native DSD playback, you temporarily lose all of your configuration settings: Your speaker distances (delays) are completely bypassed. Your speaker crossovers are disabled (all speakers are forced to play full-range). Your subwoofers will not receive any redirected bass from small speakers. So there you have it. Pure Direct mode will bypass your speaker distance settings and set all your speakers to LARGE. Now if you only listen to DSD in stereo, don't require any bass management (you have large speakers) and your listening chair is in the sweet spot you are probably not going to notice any phase differences, but of course there's now no room EQ or speaker size and distance settings or bass management. It's a different story with multichannel. Unless ALL your speakers are identical, exactly the same distance to the listening position and you aren't concerned about room EQ or bass management / subwoofer time alignment DSD Direct is for you. As most setups don't use identical speakers physically located the same distances to the listening position and in the ideal room (acoustically speaking) most users will rely on Audyssey or some equivalent to deal with the speaker type, speaker placement, room EQ etc. To achieve this the AVR / AVC has to first convert DSD to PCM. I hope this clears up any misconceptions of how these types of room correction circuits generally work in a typical AVR.
That was a great read! So in the end it all comes to down personal preference again - you either want to be a purist just because or you trust your ears and use room correction.
As a matter of fact, Direct Mode is what I use when listening to multichannel DSD and I like it much more compared to Multichannel that is likely with processing enabled. It might be due to the fact that even with Dirac (I don't use Audyssey) processing disabled, i still have DSP processing (bass management, filters and phase correction) of my front left and right Dutch & Dutch speakers of my stereo system. I have merged HT system and stereo and i use the Denon only for video content and multichannel music listening. And even though for sure there is imbalance among all speakers, the front left and right still remain the most prominent and critical ones as they handle the main soundstage. And since 5.1 tracks are encoded with native LFE, I got to say the sub does its job in a pretty good way. I do realize though that music listening is a matter of personal tastes and what I personally like is not necessarily the best way and it is not necessarily either shared by others
