For me, technically, even the DMP-A6 is overkill but I really like their design, screen and software etc. What are the chances of Eversolo doing a more 'budget' friendly streamer/dac? I'd be happy with something like the PLAY, but just without the amplifier section. I don't need a super fancy power supply or XLR plugs etc. I currently have a WiiM Ultra and while completely functional and everything - it just doesn't excite me, and the screen is just pointless. I could imagine a product like the PLAY without the amplifier could come in at a price in-between the WiiM Ultra, and the PLAY itself - which would be an ideal price point for me personally. However from recently product announcements it does look like they're going in the opposite direction.
My dream would be a streamer without DAC, which could play every audio format. From stereo up to 5.1, 7.1, Atmos (MKV) and Amazon/Tidal, Auro 3D, Auro CX, 360RA. Of course with a display, HDMI out to TV, voice control and a web interface. If it could stream Netflix and others, it would be great, but not absolutely necessary. The Fire TV devices can already do most of this, but the UI is terrible, configuration options are terrible and they look terribly cheap. Nothing I want to have in my setup (although I do, because of real good alternatives.)
It is clear where Eversolo is heading. The DMP-A6 was very well priced at launch to hook customers—a strategy that worked very well. From now on, it’s all about high-end products at exorbitant prices.
Seems belittling the brand, to me. Like if they do not deliver on time what you want, they are not serious... developing new solutions has engineering prices; parts may become unavailable and refactoring might need to step in; new technology might need to be considered, as new demands from users come in... sometimes you need to break your project half-way in to refactor and keep pace; and that, believe me, is costly... Now, do you feel comfortable comparing the cost of ANY Eversolo device to that of Chord vapourware... such as the newest (useless with almost any modern DAC) MSscaler for 50K bucks...? Mr. Watts is closer to your depiction than Eversolo is, you might agree. Somehow your view is not wrong, but it is not so right either. Cheers, Al.
The T10 is not overpriced; it's competing with the high end "reference" audiophile market, much like the A6 took on $3K streamers; it's all been evolving. I was early adopter of A6ME, and now looking at the T10, as I am target customer. I run my audio into a Schiit audio DAC, which I'm happy with. The power and jitter/clock upgrades, giant screen, etc., make the T10 a compelling device vs the $5K-$15K boxes. I think it unlikely with cost of parts right now that we will see something "below" the A6. I didn't need the DAC in the A6ME, but didn't feel bad paying for "something I don't use" as still fraction of the cost of other streamers.
