Enable the SAMBA server in network settings.

That's kind of it - if the SAMBA server is running, your PC should see the Zidoo as a server and the SMB shares for each drive inside that (assuming it's on the same subnet).

Try going directly to the IP address of the Zidoo - in a file explorer window, type \\IP_ADDRESS_OF_ZIDOO - for example \\192.168.0.164 gets me to mine:

I noticed that the UHD8000 has to always be on in order to copy data from local PC in the Zidoo's internal HDD. Correct me if I am wrong. When I had a Zappiti Neo, (sold it). I could power it off and still access its internal HDD's to transfer files from my PC on the same network.

It is faster to copy data between systems using the file manager within the Zidoo HT than using Windows explorer?

Yes you are correct - I also went from a Zappiti to a Zidoo.. the other thing besides being on, the IP address changes on the Zidoo and then I cant transfer until I use the new address..

I have never tried that but I hate using a remote like a mouse on any player - just easier going from PC to the Zidoo using a mouse..

Best to set a fixed IP address in both the Zidoo and router.

Regrettably philosophy they have but on the Zidoo OFF means completely OFF unlike your previous unit or my Popcorn Hour.

I do have my IP address in the Zidoo UHD8000 set as static IP address.

Do you have the same IP address set as static in your router as well? Both the Zidoo and the router need to be set. Also some have found it necessary to set the password in the Zidoo ie 88888888 or eight eights.
