Changed from DMP-A6 to DAC-Z8, no audio no matter what

I've have a DAC-Z8 and a DMP-A6. I had the DAC-Z8 first and it worked fine. A few months later I got a DMP-A6 to try and have been using it for a while. I tried to switch back to the DAC-Z8 and no matter what I try I cannot get audio out of it. I've uninstalled driver, reinstalled driver, multiple times; no luck. Scanned for hardware changes, changed output device on Foobar2000... nothing. Tried changing from USb-C to USB-B, nothing. Messed around in device manager, nothing. What am I missing? I'm about ready to take a hammer to this thing.

    Win 10 Pro 64 bit

Edit: Switched back to A6 and I have audio. I could see the sampling rate change on the Z8 display, but the meters never moved and there's no audio. Maybe something died on the Z8. How do I get this POS fixed?

What output have you selected on the Z8? what volume are you playing at?

I've tried all 3 output modes: XLR, RCA and XLR + RCA. Volume is always set to 0 dB, though when it first turns on I have the default set to - 5 dB. The Z8 shows up in the Eversolo control panel, and the sampling rate on the display changes to match the files being played, but the meters never move, and there's no audio output. I also switched between USB-C and USB-B input connections; no change.

what is the volume on the player? IIRC there is a per-output volume level that is remembered; check that.

The Z8 doesn't have a player, and all inputs are the same volume. I bet you're thinking of the A6.

I know what the Z10 is, for this reason I asked what is the volume of the player you are outputting the audio to the Z10... probably in this case, yes, the player is the A6.
So, what volume? checked on every output (or at least the one you are using to the Z10) ?

    I have a Z8, not a Z10.

sorry, my typo. Same principle applies; since the volume on the A6 is 0dB, check that of the Z8: -60db might be shown, but despite that should produce a sound, it doesn't, as it means "mute"; try to increase it.

Have you got anything else you can try the Z8 with? Your PC for example... hook it up on the USB, select it as output device on Windows / MAC / whatever, and play something.
This way you can determine if it works or not, or the settings on the A6 need to be checked.

Also, try the headphone out of the Z8

Make sure you use the same amp / speakers proven to work when you connect the A6 to them, so that you start from a INPUT WORKING VERIFIED situation on the amp side...

The volume is set to boot at -5 dB, but I always turn it up to 0. I've checked that at least 10 times. It's not in mute mode either.

It's always been used with my PC; like I said, I had the Z8 first, then swapped out to an A6, and when I put the Z8 back in there's no audio output. It shows correctly in Eversolo USB Device Manager, and the sampling rate shows the correct number on the display according to the file(s), but the meters do not move, and no audio output. I've tried both USB-B and USB-C inputs, as well as Bluetooth. I've also tried RCA, XLR and RCA + XLR output modes; still no audio output. I don't have any headphones to try. Regardless, the meters should always move if the signal is high enough, which it is with the files I've tried.

I'm not a newbie to electronics; I've been playing with electronics since I was 8 or 9, over 45 years ago, and been around home audio all of my life. I'm a former Bicsi-certified ITS technician with very good troubleshooting skills. My equipment is a Mark Levinson 326S pre, Mark Levinson 432 amp, and Dunlavy SC-V speakers, so fairly high-end equipment.

Hi Brent, when a friend had show me this old post I couldn’t resist, Dunlavys , An absolute legend what wonderful loudspeakers I once had their SC 1’s I believe the most smallest in line up, then the 3’s, way back late 80’s early 90’s I was always extremely impressed with the John Dunlavys performance, they were also very easy to drive, that particular pair you have, wow amazing, after John unfortunately, I believe the name changed to Duntech ? Correct meIf I’m wrong, it appears you’re certainly running the appropriate equipment with them, very nice indeed. You have a wonderful system there , wishing you the best luck now and a foreseeable future what beautiful Loud speakers I love them . But don’t know if could or still have The ability to even begin to try to move them around If for only positioning adjustment, I wish they were still available or presently being produced along with numerous other folks here , I don’t see them come up very often within the audio community here , Sorry my friend on your Z8 , in all honesty I have no idea how to get your problem resolved or rectified , I also have a Z8, from a friend that had moved on ,I just wanted to compliment You on those most beautiful loudspeakers, very best of luck to you however have a great day :)
