Anyone using their turntable with the Play phono inputs?

    Hello everyone

I recently started using the Play. I decided to dust off my turntable and start spinning records again.

I currently don't have an external phono preamp and I was wondering if the sound quality of the phono stage in the play was good enough to avoid buying a new one.

Thank you for any insight/experience you can offer.

Give it a try. It's not the top-of-the-line for sure; but it will indeed provide you with a good rendering of your vinyl collection.

Thank you. What type of music are you listening to on your phono stage?

I don't. Since many years already I just rip my old vinyls (for nostalgia...). I only buy CDs (yeah, not streaming for quality, just for discovery).
In terms of WHAT... basically progressive rock, but also some pop and some classical.

That was kind of my point. I'm hoping to hear from people who have actual experience using the built-in phono stage since the play is still relatively new. I assume that not too many people are using the built-in phono stage still.

I am about to move so my turntable is packed away at the moment so I can't test the phono stage for myself.

Yes, I'm currently using the EP's phono inputs from my turntable and it truly sounds perfectly fine to me*. Ironically I DO have a separate Fosi Audio phono preamp which probably WILL sound even better, but have simply been too lazy to hook it up to the line inputs. I guess my feet are firmly planted in the "if-it-ain't-broken-don't-fix-it" camp. :D

*I might add I'm also using a DAC, preamp and separate/more powerful amplifier further downstream.

    Thank you Mike!

Once I get my rig set up again, I'll start out using the phono inputs then.

Eventually I'll consider plugging in either the iFI Zen or the Parks Audio Waxwing. Cheers!

Funciona y se escucha perfectamente bien para mi y mas desde que le pusieron el aumento manual de ganancia

"It works and sounds perfectly fine to me, especially since they added the manual gain boost."

    ¡Genial saberlo, gracias!

    Hi,
I dusted off my Technics direct drive and connected it to the Eversolo Play. I tried with Goldring MM, Nagaoke, Ortophon, Audio Technica. I tried with the excellent Fosi MM/MC phono pre-amp connected to the aux input of the Eversolo. I must say I'm very disappointed by the sound as the sound is really "distorted".
I tried all possible settings and with no EQ at all. I also know that there is a conversion from analog to digital on both inputs (phono and aux). Could it be that this conversion stage is defect or is it due to the design and I will not get any "good" sound out of the Eversolo play ? Hope you can help as this was one of the main reasons why I bought the Eversolo. BTW I also have the Eversolo 6 Master edition. Apart from this issue the sound is excellent and very happy with this Eversolo equipment. (my system is still under warranty, bought in July 2025). Hope someone out there can help !! THANKS !!

    Hmmmm. That's doesn't bode well.

I decided to purchase a Schiit Mani 2 to use as my phono stage. I haven't been able to audition the system yet as I'm in the middle of a move.

If this is indeed the case, it may be time to seek out another amp. I plan on using my turntable a lot in the future.

I've asked Eversolo technical support if it could be an internal issue with the analog>digital chip on the analog inputs. Waiting for response. Otherwise I'll go back to my dealer and compare with his demo unit to be sure if it's due to the design or if it's a technical failure.

Just to be sure: did you select the correct phono in mode (MM / MC)?

Yes all settings ok. Eversolo Play on MM. I use Eversolo since the very first A6 came out. I bought a ADC with Cirrus Logic chip converting with 48/96 specs and connected to the Play using s/pdif coax connection and this sounds really great !! This proves clearly that the ADC in the play is absolutely not at the same level of quality/sound as the rest of the play. It has also an awful latency...the rest is really good !
