Any advice for improving the remote control responsiveness...?

I recently obtained a Z9x Pro and it is quite finicky when it comes to using the included remote control.

I also have a Harmony 950 and Harmony Hub.

Regardless of which IR remote I use, the Z9x requires VERY specific positioning of the remote in order for the Z9x Pro to respond.

Sometimes my Z9X just stops responding altogether. That's when I remember I haven't given the batteries a charge for a while. Fresh batteries or a recharge brings it back to life. The backlight behind the buttons becomes brighter so you also have a visual cue.

A bright room or a bright ray of sunlight sneaking in can disrupt the remote commands too.

Occasionally, I've had it just start misbehaving without either of the 2 causes above. After multiple button presses, it seems to spring back to life so you can shut the thing down at least.

Over the past week, my remote has decided to stop responding at all for a minute or so. Once it wakes up and after multiple button presses, I can get it back to the home screen from where I can access the content of the HDD I have plugged in and then it'll behave correctly. Batteries are all fine. Big sigh.

What replacement Bluetooth remote controls do y'all use?

My system is still 100% IR. I have a Xantech blaster (discontinued) across the room from the equipment rack and never had any problems with the Zidoo Z9X. For the Zidoo UHD5000 I have a IR translator connected to the IR in feed from a different IR out from the URC base station. That way the two Zidoo's do not see each others commands.

I forgot to update this...turns out I had a bad unit. I sent that particular z9x pro back and the replacement worked well. The remote and unit are responsive and I am a happy camper.

My V12 remote arrived yesterday and so far so good. It's way faster to respond and doesn't feel like a cheap toy in your mitt. Early days yet so let's hope there's no weird behaviour out of it.

Zidoo should just ditch the junk remote, ship all units with this V12 and add $50 to the current total. It'd be cheaper for them in the long run, cut down on their admin in shipping additional remotes and remove a headache for their customers.

Why should all of us that use high end programmable remotes pay a lot of money for a remote we will never use? Have not used a factory remote for many, many years.

Fair point. Is $50 a lot of money compared to the high end programmable remote you paid for though? After all, one way or another, you paid for the original Zidoo remote that was shipped with the media player. How do you feel about paying a bit less for that remote that you'll never use?

I was just thinking about it from the manufacturer's point of view; I'd rather sell a product that reliably worked. "Do your best" and all that. It also makes sense from the average consumer's point of view (not that media player-buyers are "average" consumers, but you know what I mean): I'd rather a product arrive with everything I need to reliably work it rather than have to buy an additional high end programmable remote (but I kinda ended up doing that with the purchase of the V12).

ANYWAY, the main point of my post was just to state that the V12 appears to be a decent product so far. That might help someone else who is having problems with their standard remote.
