Annoying cracking sound when skipping tracks / First milliseconds cut off

It sounds like a small thing, but it still gets on my nerves a bit: every time I skip a song manually and also intbetween songs in shuffle mode there's an audible cracking sound from from my old Heco speakers.
The volume of the cracking sound is always the same and independent from the volume of the device - even when muted! Maybe it's because the signal is cut off for a moment? Does anybody has the same effect and is there a way to get rid of it? Or could the devs do something against it with a firmware update?

Hi. I have the same problem. I don't understand how to solve it. The problem is clearly not with the speakers, but with the device itself. The crackling noise when switching tracks is really annoying. It doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. We must be unlucky... My speakers are Mission lx-4 mk2. I used a Denon n-10 before Eversolo, and I never experienced this problem.

I am not sure, but I think that all Play units are affected and it’s not a defective device. But I hope it could be solved via software/firmware because there is no such crackling when the songs are switching/shuffling automatically.

Hmm, I agree with you ("all Play units are affected"). I'm hearing it too on a 365-song playlist that I have on shuffle and when I select a track manually. Otherwise, playing them in order doesn't cause this. It IS annoying and kinda suckles! :-(

Another problem, possibly stemming from the same source, is that every time I start an album or skip to a different song, the first few milliseconds of the track are cut off. This is only noticeable with certain songs that start immediately. If I manually rewind to the beginning of the song, everything sounds correct. It seems, therefore, that the speaker signal is delayed when starting an album or skipping a track.

My theory is this: if the speakers always received a signal, regardless of whether a song is playing or not, both problems (the crackling and the clipping) could be resolved.

I sincerely hope the development team addresses this issue, as such audio glitches (even minor ones) detract from the otherwise excellent overall experience.

Can you tell if this behavior is always present, or manifests itself between tracks of different type / sample-rate / bit-depth?

It is always present and it is completely independent from the source material - it’s even present when playing a CD! So if you manually skip a track you will always have the crackling sound from the speakers (even if the volume is muted!) and the first fragment of the song is cut off.

The "even if the volume is muted!" thing leaves me without ideas...

Well, as I said, I assume it has nothing to do with the sound (which is affected by the volume), but rather with the overall signal being switched on and off, which causes both the crackling and the cut off.

Hello all. This is probably caused by the not synchronised data processing speeds between front and back end.
Here's a toubleshoot: Settings--Audio-- the output you used -- open Clock Compensation/adjust Sample Rate Switch Latency (eg. from 50ms to 100ms or higher, it may vary)
If it doesn't work, please tell me the connect methods and details of input-output. Thx.

Thank you but there are no Audio Settings for the normal Speaker output which I use (the four L/R-connectors). I’ve tried to change the setting for COAX which had no effect. Which setting do you mean for the old school cables?

I can‘t find this setting. I don‘t have SPDIF-Output (see below). Are we talking about the same device (Play CD)?

    Well, I‘ve already said above:
„I’ve tried to change the setting for COAX which had no effect. Which setting do you mean for the old school cables?“

Are you sure that the COAX-setting does affect the Speaker output since I do not use COAX.

And it does not sound like a delay issue. It sounds like the signal is interrupted when skipping a song.

I see. Our developer consider it may be the sound of the relays in the back-end.
Could you please record a video with the sound? Thx.

It’s hard to capture it on video (at least with my phone) but: the sound comes definitely from both speakers. It is not a clicking from the device itself.

Could you please do a troubleshooting? To see if the static from the ground wire on the power strip matters
Install a two-socket power strip and try connecting the Play device to this one.

I tried different sockets but unfortunately with no effect. But since I am not the only one (see above) I think the dev team should recreate the effect. I still wonder whether skipping tracks lead to an short interruption of the output signal?
