Hi, Since room correction was introduced to A6, I am using it together with the uosampling to 192khz nearly nonstop. I think the T8 has room correction but I cannot find any if about it having also upsampling. It is not clear to me can T8 upsample like A6 or even higher; and can it do convertion to DSD like Shanling streamers. Can anyone, please, elaborate and clarify?
Hi. T8 has evotune room correction. The more details I'm asking our tech team. Thanks for your patience.
I was under the impression that upsampling is a DAC function anyway? And since the T8 has no DAC as it is a pure transport, that would explain why there is no upsampling?
Not sure that is the reason. Shanling SMT1.3 has no dac but does upsampling! Upsampling delivers highest benefit when it is x2, or x4. My A6 (with LP) upsamples to 192khz and that delivered to the TT2 makes huge difference vs 44.1. Combined with room correction is a marvel. So for me, the clean power, the clocking, the pure signal can be done (or many have already) ouside the device. And thus, the lack of upsampling is a huge set-back for me. Clean power I have and a uDDC LAiV does all my clocking perfectly, so only benefit I see to upgrade is optical signal input which is marginal since the signal before my router and after my router is also cleared. On top, therse is a device like Shanling ET3, which is less than $600 and does streaming via Airplay, and runs CDs, and local library from flash, can upsample to 768khz and to DSD512.
All DACs, internally, do upsampling, several amplitudes, e.g. 44.1 > 384 at least. A transport could do this as well, before sending data to the DAC. There would be a buffer, of course, as the quantity of data read and written would not match in real time; but it could definitely be done.
All DACS do not do upsampling, just the DeltaSigma ones, not the R2R types which have NOS modes for example.
The A6 had this upsampling in software feature when EOS setting is OFF for local files, but the A8 did not. The T8 is in the same family as the A8 so maybe this decided the issue. The T8 also makes statements about being a bit perfect pristine source, and maybe upsampling is not considered part of that world. I use an external Holo Audio Cyan2 NOS only DAC with my A6 and tberefore find the upsampling feature usefull. It is one reason against me purchasing the T8.
If we are being pedantic, delta sigma DACs don’t upsample they oversample which is different method than changing the bit rate and sample rate of the source material itself. They achieve similar results but operationally are not the same.
Can always use Audirvāna to upsample everything before sending it to T8 via UPnP if you really must. It works with your local library and also supports various streaming services directly including Qobuz. There’s also HQPlayer, though I’ve never tried that one myself. -Ed
1/ expensive; 2/ a comp in the chain; 3/ if there is a comp in the chain why do I need the T8? I use HQPlayer for my TT2 w/o T8
Is the T8 compatible with offline room correction like REW? I don’t see a USB input to run test tones through it like on the A8.
It would only work with a pass-through room correction such as miniDSP for DIRAC Live or DSPeaker Anti-Mode X2D. -Ed
No it’s a pure streamer only as it has no DAC so it has no inputs only outputs. You can still use it using an external reference file to play via the device that rew can then read via the mic when taking recordings. This is how I do things with Housecurve, REW would be no different. Then you export its corrections and apply in Eversolo DSP.
