Has an official changelog been published?

 

I just upgraded as well - Audio only ATMOS mp4 files still stutter on my side - Hopefully the video file related issues have been resolved.

 

v1.1.80_G to v1.2.01_G is available

 

What about without _G??

No lyrics on my Z3000pro on Music player 8.
With Z1000pro on Music player 7 with the same files the lyrics was OK.
May be it's some bug?

 

Hi,
i use my UHD 8000 since some days and now i found the "sharpen picture" settings.
While I can program the menu item "AI image process" to one of the quick select buttons (red/green...), this is unfortunately not possible for the menu item "sharpen image".

 

So this means that the fake sharpness on these AMLogic Zidoos can actually be turned all the way off?

 

There are controls over Peaking, Dejaggy and Dithering and they can be individually switched on or off.

Like the AI controls I would recommend they be switched off but in all honesty you'd be hard pressed to see any difference in real world content - the effect can be seen with test patterns specifically designed to evaluate sharpness (eg Spears & Munsil patterns), but even then the effect is difficult to see, and certainly difficult to make an assessment over what's best.

 

Is there any other fake sharpness added on these models that can't be turned off?

 

No.

 

On my Ziddo Z3000 Pro, I have version 1.1.70, and it appears I can update to version 1.1.80, but I've found some negative reviews about this latest version.

Is it worth updating?

Is this version fairly stable, or better than 1.1.70 or 1.1.80?

 

I am on 1.2.01 and I will not update to 1.2.05 because I can't go back. I hear a lot more complaints about playback issues from people on 1.2.05 than I did about 1.2.01. Since 1.2.01 works for me, I'm not touching it. I highly recommend taking the same approach. If what you have works for you, do not update. The current generation of Zidoo players is unlike most other products and will not allow you to go to previous working firmware in case the update is not working for you. If you upgrade and start experiencing problems, you are screwed. About the only solution you have is to return the product to the retailer and hope they can exchange it for a unit that still has old firmware on it. (For most people, that option does not exist.)

 

For me it's been very stable - I've managed to see DV stutter a couple of times, more so with TV Led as has been reported, but I've never seen the issue on my 8000 in the cinema. I don't have any issue with DTS sync as others do and still have no explanation as to why that happens to some people but not others.

I'm not aware of any regressions from v1.2.01 to v1.2.05 but the big fix in v1.2.05 was sorting out the freeze issue.

 

In my humble opinion, firmware 1.1.70 was the best of all the subsequent ones. I had occasional freezes while using it (about once every two movies), but very little stuttering. I would leave it if you haven't updated yet. Firmware 1.2.05 completely eliminated the freezes that were most noticeable on firmware 1.1.80, but on 1.2.05 my player is becoming increasingly unstable. Stuttering on both DV and SDR. Apparently, I need to reset the settings to factory settings again. But I hope for a new firmware soon.

 

Must admit I've never seen stutter on anything other than DV, and then only when I'm hammering a Z9X 8K test box - my 8000 in the cinema has never done it to my knowledge. Are you sure you've seen it on SDR content (played in SDR) and does it manifest in the same way - ie a kind of slowdown - as if frame rate is reduced?

 

The stutters look like jerks in the image. And they are too frequent and chaotic, much more often than in the case of frequency mismatch (when the autoframerate does not work correctly). At this stage, 50 days after installing the firmware and resetting the settings to factory defaults, nothing helps to get rid of stutters on DV, neither rebooting the device nor switching between TV-Led and LLDV. SDR 2160p content causes less stutters, but they are also present. On the latest firmware, I also began to receive complaints from my little viewer (she has a collection of cartoons in the form of 1080p h265 rips and there were no complaints about them before) - stutters occur in series about 1-2 times during the cartoon and go away on their own.

 

Ok - that's an odd one - this sounds completely different to stuttering in DV - in my experience, with LLDV, they're few and far between but can generally be reproduced with TV Led, possibly worse with TV Led Passthrough, but difficult to tell. Certainly never seen it in SDR and /or 1080p content - although the reason for me not seeing it in 1080p is probably because it's not DV and not because it's 1080p.

The fact they go away on their own is interesting too - again, in my experience, if you get the DV stutters (and it's more like a slowdown/jerkiness of frame rate than stutter) then they remain until you either pause/resume or stop/resume playback - and if it's going to happen, it happens on startup of playback and not midway through playback.

What do you use as a source - local hard disc, network storage?

 

The carrier is a Samsung 860 EVO 2 TB, inserted into the player's compartment. I think I am a fairly experienced user (this is my fourth media player). If there was some reason for the playback problems, other than the media box, I would have found it and heroically eliminated it . I am already trying to treat playback problems with humor and really hope for the talent of experienced developers Zidoo. After all, I am not such a picky user.
