    i am thinking of buying a zidoo z1000pro for the bedroom, what is the side sats connector used for

    For connecting an additional Internal HDD with the supplied SATA cable without using a housing for it.

    Works just fine.

    If HDD+fan noise is the important factor get a 2.5 inch plus 2.5 => 3.5 adapter. If price/TByte or size is the important factor get yourself a 3.5 inch instead.

    Extracting HDD units from an external USB drive is far cheaper than buying an internal HDD. Do this for years.
