Sorry - I must have missed this one...

Compared to newer boxes, these are fairly simple devices (no DV, no VS10 etc) so I can only think of 2 reasons why all content would be played in SDR on an RTL 1296 box:

    1. The EDID from the TV does not support HDR
    2. You have "SDR Rec.2020" set in HDR settings

We can ignore #2 if you have reverted to previous firmware and performed factory resets because that would reset HDR to Auto, so it must be the EDID from the TV, although why that would be the case with a 2020 LG, I don't know - is there a setting in the TV somewhere?

Unfortunately 1296 boxes do not have a custom EDID option so you will be unable to download it, but if you take one of your newer boxes to your Cousin's house you could download the EDID from the TV and post it (Be sure not to change any settings when you swap the box). This will also allow you to check behaviour with your box on your cousin's TV.

No problem Mark! You read and reply to tons of messages a day, you might miss a few. As for point 2, everything is set to auto. So basically I should connect my UHD8000 to its TV and then download the edid, correct? And after downloading the edid what should I do?

Yes that's correct - just unplug the UHD2000 and plug in the UHD8000 on the same cable connected to the same port - make sure nothing changes except the box.

When you have downloaded the EDID just post it here.

After you have downloaded the EDID you could try playing an HDR file on your UHD8000 and see if it plays in HDR.

Mark I wanted to understand one thing...When I load the edid and you control it, how do you solve the situation after that since I can't load any custom edid into the UHD2000?

I just want to look at it, because if does support HDR then the problem lies elsewhere. Just trying to figure out what's wrong first.

Ah ok, clear Mark! The TV is still a 65-inch LG CX from 2020 and supports HDR and Dolby Vision. He currently uses Apple TV and Netflix and the TV goes both in HDR and Dolby Vision without any problems.
Even if you insert a USB stick with a mkv movie into the TV's USB port, the movie goes in HDR. The TV's HDMI ports are all set to full 4k

Yes, an LG CX certainly supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision - I just want to see the EDID because it's the only thing that can cause this assuming HDR is set to Auto on the box.

Is it connected to an old AVR by any chance?

Yes, HDR is set to auto and the main HDMI port goes directly to the TV and the secondary audio-only port goes to an old Denon AVR 4810.

Ah - ok - just try it without the 4810 connected.... I bet you get HDR ;)

Hi Mark! We finally figured it out and fixed the problem. In LG OLED TVs there is a setting that affects all HDMI ports called "HDMI ULTRA HD DEEP COLOR". It is usually recommended to keep it always active because it signals to the connected device that the TV can receive a greater color depth (over 8 bits) but sometimes it may be necessary to disable it if you encounter compatibility issues with older devices and so we did. Once disabled in the HDMI 1 port where the UHD2000 is connected, everything worked immediately and the contents all go in HDR! All solved and thanks again Mark!

That's really odd - that setting should have no bearing on HDR - it affects colour depth and to be honest is detrimental if you only display 8 bits. It has to be to do with the old AVR.

But as long as he's happy that's all that matters :)

I know Mark, it's very strange and I don't know what to tell you. We did the tests without having it connected to the AVR as you suggested but nothing changed. The UHD2000 was connected only via the main HDMI port to the TV and with the audio coming out of it but the problem remained and the TV did not go into HDR. As soon as we disabled the "HDMI ULTRA HD DEEP COLOR" setting on HDMI 1, the TV immediately went into HDR.

    Google says this:

On LG OLED TVs, "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color" is an HDMI setting that, when enabled, signals to the connected device that the TV can receive a higher color depth (beyond 8-bit) for a potentially clearer picture, but may cause issues if the device doesn't support it.

Yeah, Deep colour is just anything over 8-bits - so HDR content has to be encoded in 10-bit and Dolby Vision is 12-bit - both are classified as "Deep Colour"

Both the Zidoo and LG support 10 and 12-bits. Not sure about the AV amp - probably not - but if you connect the Zidoo directly to the TV, there should be no problem.

Yes yes I know Mark and I don't know what to tell you! It's all very strange and as I was telling you earlier, the tests were done by completely excluding the AVR and setting the audio output to the main HDMI port of the UHD2000 but unfortunately nothing changed and the TV continued not to go into HDR. As soon as we deselected HDMI ULTRA HD DEEP COLOR on the HDMI port, the TV immediately went into HDR!

Hi Mark, sorry to bother you again. If you remember correctly, my cousin has the UHD2000 but he has a problem with HT4. The volume scan works perfectly and finds his entire library but when he enters a movie, the plot of the movie and the writings with the 4K - 2160p - DTS - Dolby True HD - etc etc logos are not displayed at the bottom, everything is empty. Why does this happen?
