I'm out. Just loaded up new firmware to my UHD5000 and its much more responsive and works overall better - no reason to wait for the 8000 now.

First time purchaser of a Zidoo product. Originally I was planning on buying an Eversolo as a streamer for Apple Music to my AVR but realized it can't stream music in Dolby Atmos. I really like the sound of music in Dolby Atmos. Pre-ordered the UHD8000 specifically because of this capability. My current setup is stream music from the AppleTV to my Sony A7000es + Emotiva BASX LCR amp out to KEF meta speakers. I know this is a Zidoo forum so I assume some bias but do you think there will be a demonstrable improvement in sound from the ATV to the UHD8000? And if so why since it will be bypassing the internal DAC of the UHD8000.

    Glad your happy :)

For me the upgrade has too many tick boxes coming from my Z10 Pro
& if quicker / Responsive & a very slight bump in Pic Quality worth the ugrade
Plus cancer homepage etc look now.

No, not at all. It’s a bitstream … and yes, jitter this and clock the other, but unless the ATV has a horrific BER then no, there will be no perceptible difference over HDMI.

Thanks for the feedback. I may just cancel my order then and just order the Eversolo A8 for 2 channel playback and keep using the ATV for Dolby Atmos music playback and video streaming.

Check on how IMDB, TMDB and TVDB name them. For episodes do not include the episode name just the series name then S01E01 followed by the suffix. HT will add the ep name.

My initial experience with HT5 on the original Z9X has been really positive as well.

My plan was to see if ZIDOO makes a good faith attempt at one last firmware update of the older box before purchasing the 8K. Also I was thinking of waiting out whatever initial problems get worked out via update for the early adopters...
But seeing how snappy the old box is ... even with a snatched .apk, I'm wondering if the 8K will offer anything worth giving up 3D support...

Just wondering if there is any picture/sound quality different between the models since they all use the same processor?

The "problem" with ATV is that Atmos (or any codec superior to Dolby Digital) is converted to PCM (via Dolby MAT in case of Atmos). It's not as bad as Xbox (which also uses Dolby MAT and PCM conversion for streaming and obviously for gaming, expect now for the Blu-ray player... after several years of complaints), but I personally can here the difference... it not always obvious, but specially on highly dynamic transients it can become quite easy to notice. So, yes, it's HDMI bitstream, but a previously decoded and converted one.

On McBlunas site he has the diff packages for new and very recent firmwares for the upcoming players.

Maybe it's just me being a little sceptical but Zidoo has been working on this line for 2 years and there still appears to be a worrying amount, of what look like basic fixes, only very recently been addressed between diffs. Could this also be a reason why none of these boxes have yet left Zidoos factory?

Whats the source of that '2 years working' statement? Since me think they missed the s928X and came out with the pimped RT 1619 'pro' version.
So missed the initial salesburst of that 928 socket, and later decide to release this socket one year later.
That might explain the basic fixes in the current FW?

And better late than never. the 928 is a big step forward.

That was exactly my thought when I read the change logs. Mark writes that the player is almost perfect, but he answers some questions - I don't have that, I don't use that.
I'm really looking forward to the first user opinions when the whole variety is scrutinised.

Ah ok, I didn't know that - haven't got an ATV. I assumed it would bitstream the original and not convert - typical Apple - sod what the customers want, we'll do it this way and sod the lot of you!!

In that case the Zidoo will thrash the arse off the ATV (or at least the Zidoo/amp combo will).

No - they're in the wild already in China.

A lot of these issues would never affect the vast majority of users - some are very very specific.

    Honestly, don't fret.

I first received an engineering box a few months ago and was staggered at how complete it was. A lot of what I've been involved in since then has been polishing and to a very large extent making it wipe the floor with Dune/R_Zappitilution, but even back then it could have been a release candidate.

That's great news then. I'm looking for that "last mile" improvement in sound quality. I originally wanted the Eversolo A8 but it doesn't pass Dolby Atmos content from Apple Music. I'll keep my pre-order with the UHD8000. Plus with the savings from getting the UHD8000, I'll pick up a DAC that supports the AKM4499/AKM4191 chipset for even better 2 channel music.

Hello everyone! Please support (if you agree, of course) the request to the developers to return square category icons to HT5. I updated my HT and now because the categories have become rectangular - firstly, they are less visible (there were 7 icons visible, now 5), and secondly, my square / round icons are cut off to fit the rectangular ones and look terrible. I'm talking about the category icons, which used to be colored circles by default.
