If we're dreaming then something with a second hevc decoder, but that probably isn't happening.

    NvMe slot(s) would be nice.

If we speculate, then calm down with expected release date (jun'22). World mess may delay it.

NvMe slot can be easily & cheaply added to say Z9 ULTRA with no expansion of existing Media Box as its so ultra low profile slot
Just add the slot empty so can be added by user later if they so wish to have internal storage for small Movies or Music etc

    It depends ……
If they use existing chipset and update it in situ somehow ?

    could come for June.

  10. Sounds promising. Will be keeping an eye out for more. I am enjoying.

i take it it will be a higher number than 1619 then ;)

Android and RDK STB (RTD1319/RTD1619B Series)
Multiple System Operators (MSOs) need a high-performance and power-efficient Set-Top Box (STB) SoC platform to provide functions beyond merely video services delivery. With Realtek’s latest STB SoC designs, which feature an advanced 12nm process, CPU/GPU/NPU computing, a total 4K experience, and full HDMI 2.1 functions, Realtek’s Android & RDK (Reference Design Kit managed by the open source consortium, RDK Management) STB platforms (RTD1319/RTD1619B) continue to support immersive AV technology and pre-certification for applications for OTT and hybrid products, thereby proffering the most reliable SoC for MSOs and shortening the time to market.

The only hope I have @mirror is, that by then - latest... Zidoo doesn't use Testkeys anymore to build so that the whole Play Services / Play Store works with a SafetyNet certified status and the other stuff works natively in 4k, etc. IMHO this is the only thing missing on the Zidoo Z9X to be a perfect device.

Won't be perfect unless it has a second video decoder to process Dolby Vision enhancement layer.

My new concern is to spend in a new device sooner (or later). But anyway it's for sure that after 3-4 years these chipsets are enhanced and replaced.

I am not so very sure about that. Realtek is the only one making recent updates to there SOC's. Himedia and Sigma already stopped.
The market for traditional media players is disappearing and gradually replaced by streaming services.

You're right that MP market is shirking gradually but there is a wide niche for those lovers of functionality/storage/high standards 4K-8K... which is not available through streaming platforms, considering this is a payable service and subject to internet connection only.

Could Zidoo Dump chipset & go say Mediatek chipset or another maker ?
