Z9X 8K Dolby VS10 is worse than Z9X Pro and Dune 8K

Hello, how the situation looks like now after new update v1.2.01 , is it fixed now?
Or its only about model Z9X 8K ?

I use Zidoo Z30 Pro connected to Denon and display the image on Epson TW9400 - will using DV VS10 on 4K HDR10 mkv files improve the image quality in my case in any way or is it better to leave the Zidoo HDR settings on AUTO so that it just goes to HDR10?

as long as i don't see a side by side comparison with new z9x 8k firmware, that catches up with the outstanding vs10-engine on the z9x pro that claim is not helpful.

Ziddo z9x 8k has never had any problems with image quality, and with each new version, everything gets better.
It remains extremely superior to any Blu-ray player.

1 year later and I’m trying to choose between the pro and the 8k model. I want a zidoo purely for everything to be tonemapped to SDR since my JVC projector is terrible at hdr. Is the pro still the better pick here or did they fix this issue in the past year? Thanks!

 

my experience with the new 8K comparing to previous gen: there is definitely some issue with hdr-> sdr tone mapping, at least for projectors. I have noticed lower contrast, less vivid colour comparing to the prev gen. So maybe the tone mapping works better on TV but for projector I regret to upgrade to 8K

 

Exactly the issue for me - however zidoo team claimed the new version should be better, I have worse PQ very noticeable in high contrast or dark scenes.

They don’t care anymore I assume - my Apple TV does far better job. I’m considering to sell Zidoo and get Dune

 

Which dune are you looking at? Is there a dune with 3d support and a better all sources to sdr tonemapping?

 

I'm going to add my experience to this thread as I feel the tone is unfairly negative.

First off, I'm not a Zidoo apologist. It isn't a perfect box, and I don't like they can't fix an issue I have with subtitles (some disc rips turn on when not supposed to and don't turn on forced when it should; not all discs) and some Paramount disc strructures (won't play through the menu). With that said, playing this box the way most people would/should, native HDR and Dolby Vision to a compatible display, it is virtually perfect for image quality. I say this as I just today took the time to make a direct comparison between the Z9X 8k and the Oppo UDP-203 4K UHD Blu-ray player. Comparing the same disc in the Oppo as my own ISO rip through the Z9X-8K shows an identical image. Same brightness, same contrast, same color. As it should be sending an unmolested HDMI signal to a very well set-up TCL 98QM8K.

My TV allows specific settings for DV, HDR and SDR. I don't use any processing in the Zidoo.

I have Zidoos here. I have Dunes here. I have UHD BluRay players here. I have CoreElec players here and even a Zappiti! (couldn't be arsed with R_Zappitilution because I must admit because they come from the same OEM as Dune and are too expensive) - and well, to be fair, pretty much every media player that was released in the last 20 years here.

And the Zidoo is as good and in many cases much better - depends what you're playing and onto what and whether you give a damn about the UI.

There's so much crap and misinformation bandied around at the moment that how the hell anyone who's coming into this fresh can figure out the landscape, I have no idea!
