Hi, looking for some help here…
My Z8 unit is not turning on or responding.

I followed the guides on FW update and have tried with different usb-sticks and different versions of the fw - but same results.

The fw runs (reset pressed / power on) but ends with error: “cannot find the partition 3 in NOR disk”

Any idea on how to solve this issue very velcome.

What is that screen??? Where the heck are you running that update??? There is no way you can see that on your phone display!
Z8nupdate is done by placing the update file on a USB stick, then plugging it into the Z8 USB-A port, and starting the unit up (IIRC, but maybe this can be done also via the menu option, cannot remember, as I did this last 3 years ago)...

you’re absolutely right - the screen is a picture I took of the display on the Z8 during the update as you describe it - usb-stick with update file, holding the reset button in a few seconds till the screen shows an image and the let go… then starts the process and you can follow the happening on the Z8 display.

That doesn't look like the DAC Z8 screen, man...
Nevertheless, it states that it cannot find a partition... this is very weird, because there should be only one partition on your USB device, and into that just the update ZIP file...

Can you post what you did (all the oprations, one by one, detailed) so that we can possibly help you?

Or did you get it wrong, and thought this was an A8, or T8 thread...?

Thank you so much for giving me a hand with this.
Well I don’t know - it’s my first Eversolo device, but it is a DAC-Z8.

I think the log is referring to the units own internal storage and not the USB-stick.

    The detailed steps:
    0)
At first I saw the unit wasn’t responding - black screen and the button on the front had no reaction. Switching power off/on at the back had not effect either. I read that this might be fixed my upgrading the fw, thus I tried the following:

    1) downloaded the fw file from Eversolo support page: EVERSOLODAC.PKG

    2) I formatted a USB-drive fat32, named it ZIDOO and transferred the .PKG file to the root

    3) Inserted the USB-stick into the USB-A socket while the power switch was switched off.

    4) I pressed the little reset button on the back and kept it pressed while I turned the power button to on. The screen shows some sort of startup picture.

    5) Then I release the reset button and the screen shows the upgrade process is started. After I little while I’ll get the error message - which is the one I took a photo of and added to this thread.

…and that’s about it. I tried step 1-5 with different USB-sticks and other versions of the fw - but same result every time.

Much appreciated, but that guide requires that the unit can start so it’s possible to interact with the menu. Unfortunately my unit doesn’t start up at all…

Only thing I can make it do is show a logo screen when I push the pinhole button “R” on the back and from there fail in loading the firmware from the usb-a update port.

    Nothing else seems to work.

I got a bit of an update!

I changed the USB-C cable that was connected between my dac and player with a USB-B. The suddenly my device turned on and was functional.

Now the problem is - if I turn the unit off from the front button it makes a repeating ticking sound about every 3 second and I cannot turn it back on. Then I need to turn it off/on from the mains switch at the back.

No such 3-sec tick here. And I use a USB A-to-B cable too (the original one that came with the unit...) between my Pi and the Z8... I turn the unit off by front-button too.
My output is set to XLR, and I drive active speakers, which I usually turn off within seconds of putting the DAC to stand by; anyway, sometimes I just leave the DAC in stand-by, while the speakers are ON and ready to use for sometimes hours, and never heard a click/tick/pop...

Are yoiu on the very latest update? Asking, because I am not...

Thank you for your description - similar setup as mine, but it seems your unit is behaving as expected.

I think maybe it has something to do with a malfunction in the standby circuit... the ticks i hear could be from an internal relay. That would explain why I can shut down the unit using the power button - but not get it back to live...

The issues regarding the software update I have no idea about... If i run the fw upgrade through the pinhole "R" button it fails. If I try through the menu when the unit is powered on, then it seems to go trough the upgrade. I see a progress bar and after a while the unit powers off. I don't get any ok message or similar, but I don't know how it's supposed to be? When I check the fw version afterwards it matches the upgrade I was running.

Yes - now I am running 1.0.0.56, but I have also tried 1.0.0.42...

Just curious, then... can you try to leave the DAC ON and disconnect / change its input? It could be the tick is coming in from an outer source; and whyle playing music you do no hear it because it is at a far lower level... have you got some of those funny devices meant to keep insects / rats at a distance? Some other electronic device ON but in standby in the vicinity? Anything?
You can try to switch everything electronic OFF in the nearby, CD player, HT, TV, laptop, phone, etc. etc.
Just to help determine the source, eventually.

Also... now that I write and think... do you have the BT on, and it has been paired with some device, which it might be constantly pinging...? Just wandering in the dark here, I must admit, but worth a try...
