I have a 5400rpm 8TB internal hdd in my Z1000 pro that is constantly seeking (actively moving) and I don't know why. I have sleep set to 10min without activity and at the moment don't have the hdd set up as a source in HT only in media centre. Is there any way to tell what is accessing the hdd so I can stop it? Thanks
It is possible it is a NAS drive, designed for constant access? I know my initial 8Tb HGST 7200rpm was spinning too much for me (and too loudly), so I replaced it with a much quieter 5Tb laptop drive in a HDD holder, that cannot be heard (at @Nice Monkey's suggestion). I also have four very different HDD's in a QNAP box and there is at least one of them that keeps spinning when nothing has being accessed for hours, while the others appear to sleep. I will eventually locate the problem one, by removing them one at a time....
Go to your poster wall, go to settings ( top right ), go to preferences and turn off automatically scan divices or the one above it scan sources automatically. (or whatever it's called in the English menu)
