Volume Control: dB Mode vs. Digital Mode

    What is the difference between these modes? First I thought it’s purely cosmetic with a scale from -xx dB to 0 vs. 0-100. But that’s not true since dB-Mode is not useable for me: sometimes late in the evening I listen to music on a VERY quiet level and that’s not possible with dB Mode as the quietest level is too loud.

    With digital mode it’s absolutely fine. I think the change with db Mode has been introduced with a firmware update and it was possible to have quieter volume before. Or am I wrong?

    “Digital Mode” sounds as if the db Mode is somehow analog? And why does a change need a reboot? This is a little confusing. But I am fine with Digital Mode as long as it won’t change in a future update.

    Talking about updates and being “afraid” of them: is there a way to downgrade to an older version? I know that I could down them on McBluna but is it possible to install an older one? Because it seems to be that these updates are incremental

    (In case of confusion: I am not an English native speaker…)

    The volume attenuation is in the same domain (digital), I experience the same (quieter volume still too loud for late-night listening) on my Z8: it goes down to -60dB "only" while I would prefer it to go to about -80 at leats.
    Probably a software bug, not present in the linear volume attenuation 0-100.

    We can as @Zidoo Support-Kim if she can elaborate on this difference about minimum achievable volume with both methods.

    Cheers, Al.

    This digital mode was introduced for the Eversolo Play at the beginning of its commercialization because many complained about the lack of power even with the volume at maximum with this class D amplifier.

    Unless this digital mode is available on other Eversolo models, I don't know.

    @Zidoo Support-Kim or @zxs :

    Could you please elaborate on the difference and also on whether it”s possible to downgrade to an older firmware in general. Thank you!

    No need to revert to the previous firmware, simply select db which was the default (at least on the Eversolo Play).

    No, dB-Mode isn’t useable for me since the quietest level is still too loud for evening sessions.

    And the question concerning reverting to an older firmware is a general question in case the “digital”option would be ruined too with a future firmware. Because then the device would be more or less bricked (at least for me).
