For the most part, I feel lucky that these boxes seem to play well with JVC projectors... My only 2 issues - stuttering and the box going into a sleep state after 24 hours - are alleviated with relatively minor workarounds. I always perform a "sweep" before settling in to watch a movie and I've programmed a "wake" button on my Harmony remote when I'm met with a black screen upon firing up my HT...

Of the two issues, I'd really like the sleep situation rectified as it has scraping implications for me....and, in my TOTALLY unqualified opinion, I think this should be relatively easy fix...

I've got 2 of these 8k boxes, both running through a 40gbps HDMI capable AVR. 1 is connected to a JVC projector and a TCL QM7K LED. The other is connected to a Sony 90L LED and an LG CX OLED. They hum for me in all those scenarios other than the odd reboot or very rare instances of stuttering.

They reply all the time, as recently as two days ago, in the Eversolo forums here. Take from that what you will.

That's my case in last two days with two reboots in this scenario: Zidoo switch on, it makes NAS to wake up then... connecting but doesn't respond play button... suddenly reboot.

That sounds very much like a watchdog reboot. Those can be triggered when something is stuck in a kernel call for too long. If this generation of Zidoo boxes supported adb connections over USB, you'd be able to get some logs that could narrow down the issue. It's unlikely that the GUI option to enable and send debug logs to Zidoo will be useful in this scenario.

As a test, turn sleep off on the NAS and see if that makes a difference.

If you're capturing logs and there is a crash/reboot, when you return to the debug screen after the reboot, you have the option to upload the previous log captured up to the crash/reboot.

OK, I'll set up sleep mode off on my NAS for some time to test.
I'll check about the debug logs capturing and upload to Zidoo's support.

If you encounter a watchdog reboot, it's unlikely that the relevant buffers (i.e the logs that contain the watchdog reboot cause) would be flushed out to storage media. With default kernel params, you'll be missing about 30 seconds worth of data, perhaps more.

It's my understanding that the logs are captured and dumped in realtime, that was certainly the case with Realtek (Realtek provided a debug app - AML unfortunately don't), but either way, it's worth a go.

The only problem with a debug process is knowing when to start capture - easy if you're replicating an issue, but you don't want to be sending a day long debug log to the devs with a squillion bytes of irrelevance...

Anyway I'll try to capture a debug log when the issue replicates.

I'd try a few days with NAS sleep switched off first to see if it alleviates the problem - if you then turn it back on and it occurs again, then we have the cause and you can send a debug log with a greater level of information.

Before you do send a log, please confer with @Eki Shaw just so it is not missed.

on the Eversolo forum… but what about the Zidoo forum??? Are we not interesting enough for them to care… or are we just too demanding? (Is asking a product to do what it’s designed to do really too much to ask?)

I’m not talking about the members who try to help us (thanks @Markswift2003), but rather an official member of the Zidoo technical support team…

It had been a while since I’d had any unexpected reboots, but since yesterday, it’s started up again…

  13. If they release new firmware, the random stutters in DV are already tiring

they are probably working on yet another revision of the boxes. That’s the pattern with these companies, they want you to keep buying new models. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a niche market and they have to pay their engineers. I think it’s clear that the company doesn’t test enough with different combinations of devices. For you @thivame i would just bite the bullet and buy a different device. I’ve been running on the ugoos with CoreELEC p3i build and it’s remarkably stable, with new fw being released every few weeks with new features and bug fixes. You also get a responsive community where you can upload debug logs and have the developer actively look at issues. Of course it is Kodi based but if you use plex the excellent PM4K app shields that all away.

I want to avoid using Core Elec or Kodi on my main media player (I use Kodi on my other secondary players) because I don't like using it long-term... Otherwise, I'd use ZDMC on the Zidoo because it meets my display requirements.
Maybe I'll change my mind if Zidoo keeps this up.

After performing a full reset on my Zidoo (without restoring a backup) and downgrading the firmware on my Philips TV (the latest firmware was very unstable, with EDID and CEC communication issues), I no longer have any stuttering; only the random reboot issue when turning the Zidoo off or on persists....
    Too bad.
I only ask for three things to be completely satisfied with my Zidoo:
    Stop the reboots
Separate TV series from movies in “Unwatched”
Display the audio badge by default and not based on size or codec.

Yes, I'm testing that way with 2 boxes but not replicated so far. The issue appears once every 2-3 days.
I'll send the logs directly to @Eki Shaw.

Tonight I turned on my Zidoo, and it rebooted three times before it started working... It's really annoying.

When playing UDH8000 in dolby vision with Valerion VisionMaster Max, there is a slight color shifting noticable with facial color and dark background, any advice. It is very stable with JVC NX-5 at Dolby VS10 mode. Thanks!

I honestly don’t understand why there are barely any comments of the Zidoo support here, while the Eversolo one is very active.

Is there any news about a new firmware?
Do we know anything about when the animated backgrounds will come back? a more stable HT?
    thanks

In this way they try to relieve the load on the processor overheating. The reason is the poorly designed heat dissipation system.
